Well for christmas I just found out that im getting a professional products 75mm throttle body and plenum to go along with my JLT CAI. Well my question is do I need to tune my car? I know that tuning my car is a great idea, but I want to wait until I get some 3.73 gears to really get my car tuned. A friend of mine said that having those mods will sometimes cause my air-fuel ratio to be off and some other bullshit, i think hes just being a know it all because I have never heard this before, but I just want some confirmation.

Might not ba a bad idea. When I did mine, it was 100% better where as to just bolting it on. Don't really have to but it it was me, do alittle more work, then get her tuned.

Your friend is a dumbass you dont need a tune. My buddy had a pi swap, and bolt ons on his 97 and it didnt have a problem. You only need a tune if you are doing big mods.

yeah thats what I thought, if you needed a tune with all of the little bolt on mods then they wouldnt sell as much as they do. I definitely want the car tuned, just not yet. I want to do pullies, headers, catted x, and 3.73's before a tune.

Get everything together and put it on at the same time. Then get the tune. But gears won't effect the tune on the engine, just the bolt-ons.

i know the tune wont, but to get the gears calibrated i have to take it to a tuner, so I figured mine as well kill two birds with one stone and get it tuned when i throw the gears in there along with the calibration.

You dont need a tune, but but a tune will allow you to extract every HP you can I guess.

Agreed, speedo will be off, but not driving performance.

You can pick up a speedo drive gear for 3:73 gears at your local Ford SVT dealer. They cost about $10.00-$15.00, and takes about 15 minutes to install. Bang speedo calibration is done.

That is how I did mine when I installed the 3:73 gears in my car.

really? I always thought you had to get it tuned. Man thats a big relief

When you have the gears done just give the guys in the shop the new speedo drive gear and they will install it for you.

Could you use a tune w/ that? Yea...

Do you need it? No...

And your friend is somewhat right, it will cause your A/F to be off just a little but i dont think it would be catastrophic...

I ran my old 02 GT with a plenum w/o a tune til i sold it and it had 110k miles on it... :dontknow:

Won't disconnecting your battery allow the computer to readjust automatically for it? That's what I did when I did that sort of mod long ago.
