As the title states, I finally found a good teksid locally and picked it up today. Came out of a 98 Cobra so its the latest one and has the forged crank so one less thing to buy there. Motor is going into my CLEAN 98gt. Car will be forced induction from an on3 single with upgraded vbands. Thinking 9.5:1 compression fully forged with stage 2 or 3 MHS ported pi heads and blower cams plus an eddy intake on front of a t45source 5 speed and either a beefed up 8.8 or built IRS.

Anyone think I'll be kicking myself not going for the 6 speed at another $2k to get it in (and more complicated and heavier and not as smooth shifting) or ponying up another few $hundred to get to box stock TFS heads over ported stage 3 pi heads? I know out of the box TFS heads outflow any pi head but with a turbo, pi heads will support upwards and over 700whp so might be kind of pointless...

Any other suggestions before I get started? Goal is 400-500whp street tune with the ability to crank up to 600-700whp on race gas and 20+psi. Obviously will be running a proper fuel system and suspension/cage etc...

I am not making the power you will be, but I am super-pleased with my t45 from the t45 source. Hopefully you will be too!

I've always liked how t45s shift; I also considered a t56 swap, but decided it was more cost effective to just build my t45.

I talked to the t45 source already and they seem pretty legit. Have heard nothing but good about them too. Only bad thing about a t45 is parts are scarce but these guys seem to have everything. Only advantage in a 6 speed is literally the ability to get that .50 overdrive. Everything else is a disadvantage including weight, cost, additional modding and they don't shift as well. I already have an aluminum shaft and a tri-ax so literally all I'll need is a better clutch and that's it. Pretty set on this combo tho, just debating on the TFS heads vs ported PI and IRS vs SRA but I have time on those. I really wish MHS was still doing ugly ducklings. I really should have jumped on the stage 3 pi heads for $1200 back in October... Argh...

with your hopes and dreams it sounds like a turbo set up is in order. I suggest a B-head build (although your PI may be a solid option as well, I'm just not as familiar with them...)

I suggest choosing the transmission which matches your current computer system. IE: if your leaving the OEM cpmputer system, leave the transmission that came with the car (obviously built.)

The thing about the t45 source is that they have amazing customer service. The owner, Zak, will make sure you are satisfied and makes it right if something does happen. My t45 from the source, got a freak internal jam shortly after I got it installed, and they answered my emails and phone calls every time and were totally helpful, eventually they even paid shipping both ways and fixed and upgraded mine for free due to my difficulties. Top notch company IMO.

Only downside is like you said no .50 OD, but since you plan on a turbo anyway, you should have pretty low gears regardless.

I plan on 3.27s for the street with a stock height tire. I see at 80mph I'll be at 2200ish rpm on the highway. If in some freak circumstance I somehow get orders to Germany and the autobahn I won't run out of gear either lol.

edit: Might be more economical to do B heads but there is no reason other than cost. Ported PI heads will get to my power goals EASY, there are less moving parts, they are lighter, more room in the engine bay, new castings available, no conversion to worry about although converting is not the huge deal ppl make it out to be. Also less cams to buy with the PI heads and honestly the only reason to go to the edelbroke intake is because the PI is plastic and there are reports of them coming apart at over 20 psi not because they can't flow. PI intake will easily support over 600whp provided the plastic doesn't come apart.
