My T5 bit the dust on Jan. 3rd. Last night, I finally went and bought a Tremec from a friend's dad. Its just a 3550, but I shouldn't be able to break it. I'm excited as crap. Haven't driven my car in almost 3 months and its killing me. The only downside is, I had to stand in the rain for a few minute when I went to get the damn thing and now I'm sick, haha. Regardless, its going in tomorrow though, woot!

Pics to come.

Nothin' wrong with a 3550. Mine lived through 615 ft. lbs. and it hasn't broken yet. (The keyword there is "yet." :hammer: )

what is the exact differences between the 3550 and the 3650?

I know the 3650 has an integrated bellhousing on it, and internal shift stops to prevent bending the shifter forks like T5's and T45's are common for. The synchros are very weak from what I've heard as well.

If its possible to break a 3550 with a stock 5 liter, I'm the dumbass that could do it, haha. Seriously, if I break this one, I'm going auto.

$850 from a friend's dad. He was asking $1100. But I've bought a car, and some other crap from him so he's starting to give me good prices, haha. It was only rebuilt about 2000 miles ago too.

Is Pennzoil Synchromesh the same as GM synchromesh? Can't find the GM shit anywhere.

Also, the I/D of the current pilot bearing is too fucking little for my puller to fit into! ARGH

Well, I went down to Advanced and got their puller tool, which has smaller fingers on it, but one of the arms was bent so it wouldn't work. So my brother and I beat the shit out of it with a chisel and got the inner part of it broke out, now the only thing left of it is the outer ring. So, we went back to autozone and get their puller that has the slide hammer attachment. I was tightening the thing up and broke one of the f*cking fingers on it! This is rediculous. Shouldn't have taken no more than 3-4 hours to get this thing put in. we've been working on it for about 6 hours now and haven't even gotten the old bearing out.

Pack the pilot bearing hole really tight with grease, then stick the clutch alignment tool in there and whack it with a deadblow mallet - the grease will push out the bearing via hydraulic action. Works like a charm for me. FYI - this will likely destroy the clutch alignment tool - or at least the "loop" on the end of it. I have one laying around specifically for this purpse. :)

By the time I remembered this method this morning, we had already beat out like 2-3 of the bearings inside the race, so when I tried putting grease in behind it, it was just pushing out of the front. The only thing left of it now is just the outer ring. I called it quits for the night, started to get a little chilly and I'm sick as hell already.

I've also heard of people doing the same thing with dough, wet toilet paper, and other weird stuff as well. Too bad I didn't remember until it was too late. Last time I had to change the bearing, it came out with ease (somewhat).

The 3650 is garbage compared to the 3550.

Just remember to install the 3550 you'll need the fox tremec bell, the fox clutch fork, the 5/8" driveshaft spacer and a piece of 1/4" metal drilled with 2 holes for the mount bolts to use as a shim to get the trans to sit level on the crossmember.

You also need to flip the crossmember so that right is on the left and vice versa. This allows the 3550 to sit right down on the SN95 crossmember like it is stock. Ask me how I know all this lol.

We just got done discussing this on Corral, haha. :hammer:
3650 is nothing more than T45 with internal shiftstops and a synchronized reverse gear if I remember correctly. Can't use it on a 5L anyway.
