So tonight I pulled my starter out to replace it. Since it started not engaging the flywheel. In the back of my mind I worried there was a flat spot on the ring gear. But things looked good on the teeth I could see and pressed for time I just put everything back together. Well, there's a flat spot on the ring gear and I wonder what you guys would do. A new flywheel is out of the question, period. But, would you guys go used flywheel and risk it developing a flat spot over time. Or get a new ring gear pressed on my existing flywheel and risk them not getting it straight.

Flywheels are only like $100 man, If you have $60 for a starter, whats another $40 for a flywheel? I believe in replacing old, worn out products, not "refreshing" them, Unless it's re-boring a block or like that.

Well there's a little problem with that. It was $100 for the starter. Then it'll be anther $100 for the flywheel, and my wife has to have $400 of orthodontics work done today. which leaves us with very, very little money for the next week and a half.

Normally you can find a used flywheel that has been turned for a good price check on the CL.

Holy crap 90 core what are they smoking. You know what the guy i bought the GT40p's might have a flywheel he said he had 3 more boxes to go through. Keep checking CL you probably saw the GT40p's and also a trickflow cam and yellow edelbrock upper and lower. I picked up the p's and cam. Email him and ask.

I had a new ring gear pressed on my flywheel when a tooth broke, but that was on my $800 McCleod twin-disk so buying a new one wasn't really a viable option.

Yeah Paul I understand. If things were a little different I would be looking at buying a much better flywheel. But financially were getting back on our feet right now and we dont have our $1000 emergency fund in the bank.

If you can get a new ring gear pressed on for a reasonable price, I don't see anything wrong with it. Trouble is, lots of places don't have the correct tool for it.
