even if it is totaled it will be rebuilt bigger and better. Found a roller locally I can get the front end parts from, the air bags and possibly some cobra-R wheels that I can sell from it too offset the price when I am done with it. Would give me a chance to do a few things I have wanted to do now for a little while.

Also found a saleen body kit not too far away, what would a fair price be on one of those? Not interested in putting it on my car as much as if I could flip it an make a few bucks on it.

woke up with a call from the body shop today. Says he started an estimate and its around $9k........... After looking up the prices of a new hood/fender I am a little surprised. He said he is filling out a bunch of forms for aftermarket parts that should help but....

you guys have to remember a $70/hour shop time....

they have to un-crinkle the crush-zones on the fender supports, weld in a new radiator support, then there are parts:
A/C condensor,
Radiator,
hoses,
fan,
headlights,
wiring harness,
air-bags,
air-bag trigger box,
air-bag sensors up front,
fog lights,
intake,
battery,
battery tray,
coolant expansion tank,
headlight panel cover,
bumper,
bumper cover,
bumper foam,
fenders,
washer fluid tank,
charcoal canister,
lines for emissions......

that doesnt include any suspension work... what if he ripped out a motor mount? blew a strut, warpped an a-arm.. .. ....

THEN tack on the hours of destruction + construction + hours of alignment.

Once the body is straight again they have to put the body panels back on....

once its all back together there's paint prep, paint, sanding, polishing, buffing, cutting, etc. etc.

THEN they have to test it and diagnose problems... (Oh, his left headlight doesnt work... Oh, he ripped out a ground wire we didnt notice and it took us 9 hours to track it down.)

I am sure they will total it. I found a roller locally that should have all the front end parts and hopefully the airbags as well for only $1k, might be able to talk him down a bit. Wonder how much they would charge to tweek the frame if that has been done?

if your front end is swayed over it is literally just setting up and measuring it into spec, usually 2 hours to setup and however many hours to pull it. I can easily see that being 9k of damage honestly. Id be willing to be its 3-4k just in airbag components, probably need both new modules, possibly an entire dash if it was ripped in any way, sensors, probably a new ECU if their guideline calls for it, new belts....its never ending lol. Just keep your eye out and you'll be able to snatch up some parts on your own

I have already pretty-much resided myself to the idea that it will be totaled. What all happens with buying it back to rebuild salvaged? Never done that before or know anyone that has....

you have to re-buy the car from the insurance company, it will be registered as a salvaged, you need to get the new title from the DMV. thats all i know. lol.

Silly question - is it possible after the airbags are triggered to not install replacements?

yes. UPR (as much as i hate them) sells air-bag deletes.... they are just hollow versions of the OEM ones. Your air-bag light will blink, but thats it, as far as i know.

If you do a Google search "salvage title" and put in your home state, you'll probably come up with what is required to purchase and title your totaled car.

If I can get that roller and its all good I should have all the parts I would need from the air bags to the fenders/core support for $1k or less.

Good thinking there with the roller Scott. With as much time and effort as you've put into that car don't give up on it yet. Depending on how much of the work you can do yourself will determine how much you'll actually spend ya know? Good start with the roller for $1k, like you said if it's got all the parts you need, then you my friend just hit the jackpot. Air bags are damned expensive to replace, so that alone makes it worth it

Picked up the body shop estimate and there are a lot of places there that I know I could save some $$$. Can't get the guy with the roller to call back unfortnatly though as that is what I really need to make this happen.
