I found a cobra here locally I have seen it a bunch of times but never checked on it. I went and looked today at it. the front clip is totaled the motor looks fine. I would have to buy inner outer fenders new front clip hood and maybe even a door. The owner says the car has 40k on it. But I have no idea of how long it has set. He wants 4k for it. is this a good buy or not. Sorry no Pics.

That may be a good price, pics would help us. But if you look around long enough you will find a good deal. I looked for 2 years and finally found a '94 Cobra for a steal. The car was actually on here for sale.

If it is a Salvage Title. No way i would pay 4g for it. Once you fix it you don't have to get a salvage title.

4k is too much IMO, especially if you need to do serious front end work...

I was in the market for a 96-98 4v for the last year or so...

Cars come up on salvage auctions alot, but for some reason they get bid sky high, I've seen a 96 Mystic coupe with 140k go for 3500 in NC... Banged up nose, left rear 3/4, back bumper, and other various scrapes.

After fruitlessly searching the salvage auctions, I turned to other venues and found a 96 Laser Red vert with 88k, one owner FL car for only a little more than what you posted. Clean title and NO damage of any kind obviously.

What I'm trying to say is that deals are out there, you just need to keep looking.

i'd only resort to a totaled/salvaged car if its your only option. there's not too many cases where a destroyed car will cost you less to buy and fix than just buying one that's already in good to immaculate condition.

hell, thats why you find entire cars in the junkyard when only the front end is smashed up. all the body work, paint, and replacing any drivetrain/suspension/etc parts, then having the whole car realigned/etc, would cost THOUSANDS to repair. most people that are in that situation, realize that it would be cheaper to just buy another car of the same that they had, rather than sinking more money into trying to fix an already broken car.

let me put it this way. if you think you can buy a totaled car, buy ALL the replacement parts, AND pay someone roughly $100/hr to fix everything to where it looks like there was never any damage to begin with (yeah right), and still come out cheaper than buying another one for a few grand, then go for it.

when my last car was totaled, the car (resale value before the accident) would have been around $1500. through the insurance company, in compensation for the car being totaled, I got roughly $4500. there was no damage past the radiator(fenders as far as the body is concerned), aside from a broken upper intake due to the CAI being mounted to the fenderwell. they quoted the damage at over $8,000.

basically what im getting at, is that if i were to have bought my old car, it probably would have cost me about $~1000, then another $8,000 to fix it. that means, i would have paid over $9000 to fix a car that would have cost me MAYBE 2-3k to buy. and in the end, id be paying about 6k more for a car that drives like its been in an accident.

had the same prob with a 99 v6. since they have so much room before the engine though.. engine was perfect lol. just needed new fenders, bumper, frame job, radiator, and hood. turned out sick though. put gt hood on and a 99 cobra bumper and painted white

I am an appraiser for a body shop if you can get me some good pics i can give you a ruff estimate on how much its gonna cost you to repair and you can go from there, but just some of the stuff you have listed it needing 4g's sounds high.
