Found the source of the coolant smell - how does the overflow get routed and where does it go?

New to me 1995 Mustang GT 5.0 has a coolant smell under the hood. I noticed today the overflow on the radiator neck is not connected. This looks like an easy fix. Where does this go to and how is it routed?

there should be a hose that goes to the coolant overflow tank.
