I just took the 98 GT to a free dealer 27 point inspection

The dealer recommended I get an

Engine Tune Up (there approx cost is $438)

I feel like this is prob an outrageous price

If im going to spend anywhere near that amount of money i figure i should go aftermarket or ford racing performance parts

Im not ever sure what an "engine tune up" really includes

If anyone has gone through this situation and could recommend something to put me in the right direction i'd appreciate it

Tune up could consist of a number of things..a few of the following I'm sure on on their "tune up"
-Spark Plugs
-Plug Wires
-Oil
-Fuel Filter
-Injectors possibly
-Air Filter
-Coolant Flush?

Im not too sure on what they do now, I do all my stuff myself.
The engine tune up stuff is usually pretty simple to do, and a lot cheaper to do on your own. Plus, it makes you connect to your car better, create a "bond" if you will.

For a $400+ quote I would expect a breakdown on what that covers

I'm sure it includes some unnecessary goodies like a $200 injector service

when i worked as a tech i would see people recommend things that didnt need to be done just to get some extra cash.

call and find out whats involved in the tune up and just do it yourself
