The likely use the same basic chassis on a rwd car, cut down on production cost? My only guess?

or they know rwd is better and some poor sucker will try to convert it? :p

It's for the exhaust. I work in the body shop at the Nissan plant where they build the Alitma, Maxima, and Leaf, and the Leaf has a mostly flat floor, other than a recessed area for the battery pack. I also worked for GM before they closed, and I put the heat shield in the "trans tunnel" for the exhaust.

Yupp exhaust. It's run right through there on my Grand Am too. Guess it enables the exhaust to be tucked up and out of the way, or like Orange said allows for easier RWD conversion! :)

it makes it easier for the kids to draw that imaginary demilitarized zone that seperates the brother sister and because of that it helps to balance the peace in the universe, or at least in the back seat........... Anyone that has taken a long road trip with two small kids understands how important that peace is.
