Hey I am new to this site and I was wondering if anybody had any tips for keeping their pony looking good (clean) on gravel roads... so far I have driven a Geo Metro, Ford Taurus, and a 92 Towncar... so until this point I haven't really cared much about rock chips and keeping it clean all the time. I just got a 96 Cobra about a month ago, and It seems I am washing it every few days just to let it shine a little... any advice would help except for maybe not driving on gravel... as I don't have a choice for about another year... Thanks guys and keep up the good work, I have a lot planned for the cobra, just not any money to do it as of now

Don't know if there is anything you can do but stay away from them. I don't go down them with my new paint job, in the past I did though. I drove really, really slow on the 1 I went down. I'm talking like 5 MPH. Didn't have too far to go though. My cousin that lives on that road hates it. She has a black Z-71 Tahoe. Can't keep it clean for anything. Interested in replies this gets!

How much traffic is there? My only trick when I was forced to go on them was let the car idle in first and never touch the throttle...my 315 drag radials kick up A LOT more than factory tires. You go anything over 2-3mph and it starts kicking up a cloud, bad.

Not much traffic on the road, but i have about 3 miles of gravel to get to my house... right now its the least of my problems as my lane to my house is about a half mile long, and complete mud right now :( so i just hose it down when i get home before the mud dries and throw a few bucks in at the local car wash when i'm on my way into work or what not...

I live in the sticks soo I deal with this. Most of the gravel is been washed away but when they put some on a road near here and I had my bronco, I did a nice wax job and after I drove the dust, I'd rinse it off and dry it off. Not much else you can doo for it cept avoid it

I drive 2 miles on dirt/gravel everday w/ the car. Done it for years and never a problem w/ rock chips. Dust is a pain in the ass. Buy a california car duster.....a lot of times the car isn't even dirty just dusty and this cleans it right up. I the dash duster made by them as well for the interior since I drive w/ the windows down and w/ a black interior everything shows and I hate it being dirty/dusty. Other than that I can't think of much else to help. No doubt about it...twice as hard to keep anything clean in those conditions.

Reminds me of last year at the strip, this guy had a nice clean freshly painted 70' chevelle ss, big meaty slicks and had the fenders taped up, a few pieces of rubber were slightly above the taped area, I saw him cleaning it off for like 30 minutes :p.

Anyways I try not to drive my car on gravel now, but can't avoid it in my area of the country. I have a few chips on the front and it makes me mad, I just drive REALLY slow down gravel though.

I would get some mud flaps so the rock don't mess up the paint when you drive on those roads. Roads like that suck. When I went to Vermont last month to visit my sister, I pretty much washed my 98 gt everyday. lol
