I know a couple (married couple) where the husband ported the crap out of a set of P heads and got some very impressive flow numbers. To the extent that he ported them you would not be able to do it yourself without breaking through a water jacket somewhere. If you take the heads to a really good shop (huge porting reputation) you can get them to flow pretty well. I don't know how much it would cost you though.

Getting GT40Ps ported to flow anywhere near good aftermarket aluminums will cost at LEAST as much as a new set of said aluminums when all is said and done. Ask me how I know...

At any rate with a properly put together combo and a little diy porting(get a few cartridge rolls and grind off the egr bumps) you'll see probably a little over 275 to the wheels which is enough to get well into the 12s.

The TFS1 or one of the Crane Powermax cams are good cheap OTS bumpsticks to use with these heads. Why carbed?

I boast this combo around here alot. Gt40p, Comp XE240r, Trick Flow upper and lower intake. Diy port work on the heads with double springs. 300 hp and 311tq to the wheels.

Just remember, whatever cam you go with, you ought to get a tune.

That's the beauty of a carb. Set the idle mixture, set the idle speed, set timing, and off you go. You don't need to go for a tune.

yah i will get a tune for the carb. i just talked to my friends aunt and its in better shape than i thought and more expensive than i thought so cam will have to wait a little bit. how hard are they to put in after engine is in the car? i've been reading about it and since i am going to switch it to carb it shouldn't be too bad with taking the lifters out. what type cam does the stock 95 gt have? so i know what to buy. i read roller lifters are reusable which would help a lot. my first step after i buy the car will be to just drive it a little, add exhaust, then to later add the cam and intake this summer and sell all of the efi stuff.

so when i switch to carb soon after i buy the car should i go ahead and get the gt40p's (175 dollars) and hold off until later to get the aluminum heads? or should i stick to the e7's and get aluminums in a couple years when i'm in college? (dad won't let me get aluminums until then)

Well with a carb you can either have good gas mileage or maximum power. Not both. With EFI you can have both.

well i just don't want to have all the computer crap that has to be tuned every time i do anything to the car. i dont mind getting the worse gas milage just to have the ease of tuning a carb and the less cluttered engine bay.

Stick with FI and buy a AEM or Tweecer and tune it yourself. Takes a little practice but in the end its far and away the best option. Of course you should get a full dyno tune anytime you do something big to your car just to see what kind of power you're making.

yah well thats another 500-1000 dollars on top of getting a better flowing intake, upper and lower and throttle body and air filter/intake plus the hassle of trying to do it yourself. whereas i have an edelbrock performer rpm manifold and a holley carb already which were less than just a lower intake for the fi setup. then i am going to bet a procomp ignition setup w/ ignition and distributor which will cost about as much as a good upper intake. I just want the ease of not having to do all the computer crap and stuff. plus i want to learn about the carbs more. i know it will get less gas milage but for me i think it is a better deal.

Well, its not like there aren't GT40P heads for sale all the time on the Corral. I'd go put a WTB ad up over there and see what happens.

well if on a budget yea go carb. Carbs are good. I know there's a thread on here right now with a debate of efi over carb and I seem anti carb but I actually think carbs are awesome. I just like efi better.

just thought i'd ask another question about this car topic i had been questioning. how much worse gas milage do you think i'll get with a 600cfm carb over a typhoon intake and 65mm throttle body?

1 to 2 mpg tops. If its set right it'll be good on gas.
