Here is the recall: Manufacturer: FORD MOTOR COMPANY Campaign Number, Case: 00V349000, 00S37 Defect Report: Recall Initiator: ODI Dates: 10/4/1993-10/10/2000 Date Owner Notified: 11/28/2000 Vehicles: 1994-2001 FORD MUSTANG No. Vehicles Recalled: 3472000 Noncompliance: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. IF A VEHICLE IS PARKED WITH THE PARKING BRAKE NOT FULLY APPLIED AND NOT IN FIRST GEAR, AS DIRECTED IN THE OWNER GUIDE, AND THE SELF ADJUSTMENT PAWL SUBSEQUENTLY SKIPS ONE OR TWO TEETH, THE VEHICLE COULD MOVE ON SOME GRADES. Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT AND A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. Corrective Action: DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE PARKING BRAKE CONTROL AND INSTALL A PLATE OR OVER-BRACKET TO THE CONTROL TO LOCK THE SELF ADJUST MECHANISM IN POSITION FOLLOWING ADJUSTMENT When I bought my car from my buddy, I was driving it home and did not know the passenger side ebrake cable was rusted solid. It caused the brakes to drag and they actually caught on fire. Luckily it only fried the pads and caliper. That's when I unhooked the rear cables from the calipers. I don't like relying on just keeping it in gear to stop it from rolling. New ebrake cables from Rockauto are like $15 per side. They just came in a few days ago and I plan on putting them on when I replace my clutch.
