I have a pic I’ll attach but it’s not very clear. So my 02 sits in the Florida sun and I’ve noticed recently that the clear coat on certain parts are starting to haze and is uneven. I know you “can” sand it a little, spray clear and then wet sand until smooth. I tried that on a spot and it looks a lot better but at certain angles you can still see a haze. What have you guys done to correct that? I’m thinking of dropping it off somewhere and paying someone else to do it but I’d like to at least try something myself before that.

If you look closely you can see it along the window weatherstripping.

you can't replace the clear that easily. You would be better off buffing it but that is something that takes a little time to learn with a few mistakes along the way

That’s what I was afraid of. I guess if it’s only a few little spots that can be blended it won’t break the bank and I’ll be happy.

I am not sure what part your wanting us to look at. Unless the clear is chipping if its only hazy a good autodetailer can do some paint correction and you would be amazed.

Get it paint corrected by a reputable detailer. They can do a full cut and polish and bring some life back to it.

Its not a very good pic but this is what I have saved in my phone at the moment.

You see they haze just below the tail light? The clear is rough there. I’ve tried buffing it myself but it doesn’t go away. I’d imagine that the only thing I could do at this point is respray it. I just don’t know if I have the energy for it anymore. Looking at the car when I bought it until now, the paint and interior have gotten worse, it’s demoralizing.

its hard to tell if its clear thats wearing away or something else. How did you buff it and what did you use?

Its definitely the clear unfortuneately. Not gonna lie I don’t use top shelf stuff, I’ve tried using turtle wax rubbing compound and finished with once a year car polish. I haven’t used wax on it yet though.

I was more concerned with if you were doing it by hand or had a buffer of some type. Look into local detail shops and ask them if they can fix it or make it look better and I will be surprised if there isn't something they can do to help.

Hmm I could reach out to a detailer before a body shop, it sounds stupid but I didn’t think of that. I’ll call around to see what they say. Thanks.

So I tried compounding and polishing a few areas myself and it came out pretty good. Not perfect but about 80%. Heres the same area of the trunk by the drivers side tail light.

In person you can see the imperfections better but overall it’s not bad. I’m just jealous because I see a lot of your rides and they look immaculate compared to mine.

the fact that you got that much off by hand tells me that a machine would do a little more and possibly take it all off. If you do not want to invest in an auto detailer then consider investing in a DA buffer and some pads and the time to use it.

I used a buffer for that but not a da. Its just a cheap Ryobi buffer. I did the rest of the car at one point with it and it was a huge help. I’m still a novice but I’d like to think I know a thing or two but not like you guys of course. Maybe with a different compound and another few passes it would have come out looking even better.
