What is your budget? It varies some peoples budget is $1,000, others is $5,000. What kind of power do you want to make?

This should be moved to the 5.0L section.

There are a bunch of options out there. You could go fairly cheap with a GT40 setup or a bit more for a full Trickflow setup or go more crazy.

i found a re manugactured 302 block with cast alluminum pistons and 50 oz crank. it is bored to 306. i found it on latemodelrestoration.com for $699 does that sound like a good deal or would i be better off going with forged pistons ?

what is the history of the motor? Are you sure? You can never really know if it was out of a drag racer that ran the crap out of it or some chics car that never changed the oil....

Going from a 302 to a 306 wont net you that much more power unless it has higher compression pistons. A typical H/C/I set up will net anywhere from 280-300 HP at the rear wheels. Do you want 300 at the rear wheels or the crank? Getting 350 at the wheels out of a H/C/I 302 is difficult. It can be done but would be a radical set up and not very street driver friendly.
