head legality...?

so all i really want to know is why some heads are 50 state street legal and others arent. thats it. :santa_undecided:

If they dont get the certificate for them even if they can pass you can be failed just because it has not been certified. There are quite a few cams for the 5.0 out there that are milder than some legal cams but dont have the stupid number. Same goes for heads. Although in California, they are supposed to have the air pump holes in the back of the heads. Plus im not sure that some states that are pretty strict like cali would like heads that flow say 300cfm....

Well in California at least it is also supposed to have the holes in the back for the air pump tubes. Which really makes no sense to because they sold 5.0 explorers that came with gt40p heads but if you stick them on a mustang they are not legal because of the holes not being there.... its really stupid and you can most likely get away with it if you find some ghetto place to do the test and as long as it is within the smog test limits you should be fine, of course your car should pass with the stock H pipe with much ease.

The certification is for emissions regulations. You cannot make a change that will affect the emmissions output of the car. The certified parts meet this requirement.

you have no idea....cali is the smog nazi state. In So Cal there are now special devices on Freeway On/Off Ramps that detect if your car is a heavy polluter and snaps a pic of your plate
