OK so i just finished installing my new edelbrock rpm heads, holley systemax intake manifold and 75mm throttle body. Everything is in working order as far as idle and running conditions but i'm getting an odd smoke. This smoke appears from under the car and in the engine compartment. Also it is only happening at like 50% throttle and it doesn't come out through the tail pipes but from under the car. Now i popped the hood and there is no oil residue on the headers or the block or anything. The only thing i can think of is that i haven't installed my oil dipstick tube since i removed it to install the heads. my question is could this be coming from the hole in the block through which the dipstick seats or could it be a pcv valve problem or something.... any Ideas?.....

Did you seal the hole? i know stupid question but an open hole that holds oil in there could spill out under high pressure situations.

Well i can't seal the hole because that is where the dipstick goes. I just haven't put the dipstick back on..... You think this is the problem i'm having?. Oil spitting out through this hole and maybe falling on the headers? I know my long tubes run right next to this damn hole..... Oh i'm having another issue. Since I blew the head gasket and the car was sitting for a few months all dissasembled now my oil pressure sits very low, even at cold start up. when cold it only goes to like 10psi but when it starts to warm up and start to drive the car, it starts to slowly rise and stays like at 30-35 psi. but the weird thing is that the car would never do that before. The oil pressure would rise to like 50psi and then when warm it would drop to liek 20-25 psi and it would go up when i revved it... :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

i dont really have a clue but i would say the oil would be able to come out of that hole if there is no oil dip stick in

if you have a capilary tube type you could have air in the line and that could give you a false press reading. if a sending unit type try replacing that or verify that with a actual press. guage

Ok i installed do dipstick tube today and Voila... no more smoke coming from under the car and through my shifter boot. Ok the only to rpoblems left would be the oil pressure and some smoke through my tail pipes. i know a running motor that was having good oil pressure could not just lose the pressure like that. the smoke issue i think is that the previous heads i installed on the car were aluminum heads and they were blown everywhere and thus i had water or coolant all over the place even leaking through the head studs. i'm thinking i have a lot of leftover coolant that ran down the headers and deposited itself in the X pipe and mufflers. i know that no coolant will be able to withstand the temps on the headers but the rest of the exahust is takes much longer to heat up, thus making the evaporation process a longer one. or i could just have a leak from the intake to the heads or a problem with the head gaskets. although the heads aligned perfectly, I also used the head guides so I'm at a loss here. the motor runs and sounds great.
Maybe i'll just take the x pipe off and watch if smoke comes out of the longtubes. if it does then, ihave another problem, if it doesn't then i'll just wait for coolant to evaporate. Sorry for hte long thread.........thansk in advance guys...and girls...
