(cooling fan disconnected to fit manual gauge in the temp sender location).The temp was ok while the car was moving and would come down while driving after idling for a short time.I bought a new 190 deg thermostat to try from Rock Auto but it didn't fit? so I tested the 180 and original 190 in a pot on the stove and they both worked as they should with the 180 opening sooner and wider than the 190 so I thought what the hell and reinstalled the original 190 and it controlled the temp a lot better specifically at idle after getting it up to temp. After several times draining and refilling the cooling system I might have got too much coolant in the expansion tank because it started overflowing through the cap when hot, so I removed some coolant and reinstalled the old cap,  last test run all was well.I put a scanner on the car and the cooling fan was coming on low speed at 103 C and off at 97 C (approx. 217 f - 206 f) which appears to be quite normal.I have moved the needle on the gauge so it doesn't look so alarming at 'normal' operating temperatures.The previous posts on this thread have helped put my mind at ease about the temps these engines operate at.</blockquote>
