So a while ago I was talking about doing a shift kit for my auto, but I just want my car to be fun to drive...not just pushing a pedal. And im not planning on drag racing it so no need for a beefed up auto. anyway...I got a list of all the parts i need from this site. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/25.shtml
So I looked it all up, took down all the prices, added it up and got just over 2 grand! I thought it was going to be a cheaper swap, more around 1400. I can't find parts from a junkyard cuz I don't have any good ones here in NW iowa.
So would a kit from ebay be better? something like this?

Never mind. well I never did the swap Instead I sold the car lol. I had an 01 gt vert for 2 years auto with 410 gears
and all the boltons, it was quick and a very nice car but kinda boring. Even at the track just push the pedal and go
whats the challange? now if you had a 10-11 sec car that might be alot more fun with an auto. but mine ran high 13's.

yea, im not gunna be drag racing so I don't want a souped up automatic.
I just want to be doing something while driving and every once and a while when i step on it, i want the power right there, not wait for the shiftdown.
I don't really wanna be paying 2k for a swap, so I'm wonderin if it costed that much for you guys that have done it ?

lucky you..i wish i had an automatic...if some one lived near me i swap an auto for my 5 speed.

Have you considered a good rebuild on your auto and gears? mix that with a B&M hammer shifter ( i know its not a 5 spd )
but its enough to totally change the way you car drives and really wake things up , i done that to my bone stock 95 gt and was shocked at how crisp everything felt , was really happy with it till my motor gave way . But hey , i guess 350K is pushing it for a motor right? expecally one in a sports car.... Any how , if you do think about it and want to get some ideals i would suggest talking to LAFENATU , he told me what parts and where to get them for my tranny. It Also helped i had a guy who owed me a fav build it for me. Once you crack open a tranny , it may as well be from outer space as far as im concerned

Sorry , i totally missed where you said u looked at an auto shift kit :BangHead: , and as far as gears i forgot to add 373's didnt do much for me , but 411's really woke it up good

Hey , I dont know where ur located , but if any where near st louis missouri I just found a wrecked 95 gt vert 5 spd for $1500 with a nice of cobra r wheels or $1k with out , you could do a swap with that and sell the rest and probly get by with it only coasting a few hundred....

So you have an auto now? Does it work or is it shot? If it works, just throw a transgo shit kit in it. They are pretty simple to install. You just have to take your time. No sense in doing a converter cause you'd have to get it tuned for the different stall.

Yea I saw that post on craigslist....I did a mapquest distance check and its like 8.5hrs...I live in northwest iowa....

yepp, i have an auto now...it works pre good...it slips when its cold, but when she warms up, its fine. I just really want a manual. I know a shift kit and a b&m shifter would do magic on shift quickness and all...but I wanna be doing it. A couple of my friends have manual vehicles and whenever I drive them I wish my car was a manual.

Well , i know for a fact if u can get it soon he would cut the price pretty damn good , just got off the phone with him , let me see what I can do we might beable to work something out if your searous about a swap

Even thought the price would be low, I think I'm gunna stick local or go with a swap kit. I don't really want a half mustang sitting in my our driveway and I know my parents REALLY don't want that. Thanks tho man :icon_salut:

Keep what I need and part the rest , just not feasible for me to buy the whole car for the petty stuff i need but I'm all about trying to help someone out

No tune needed for a different stall speed...

I did a fairbanks shift kit and it was $109 Shipped i believe, they average $100-120 for the AODE/4R70W Shift kits.

Thanks man....but my plan is to have a manual in by summer, so its gunna be a lil while yet before I start buying. I have to pass everything pass by my parents because Im only 16 and they don't want me doing it right now. I appreciate your help though man.

bro it would be free if you lived near me..i want an auto..i would swap straight across..

But to answer the question, I did the auto to manual swap for under 700 bucks. Bought a used t-5 setup, pedals, computer, driveshaft, pro 5.0 shifter and a stock clutch with resurfaced flywheel, clutch cable, upr firewall adjuster and quadrant.. You can have it done in a weekend easy if youre handy with a wrench. Hardest part is the pedals but it literally is a straight forward swap.

I had a built aode with a 3000 stall before, they are still fun to drive when they are built but when mine needed a rebuild it wouldve cost around 1000 so I put ina 5 speed and have been happy with it. But its not my dd.

awsome!....did u pick up ur parts from junkyards? or off the internet? i.e. ebay. craigslist?
