I have a buddy that has a turbo running 7 lbs right now and hes going to go with 12 lbs and try to make 500 rwhp? Can the internals hold or will he blow something. Thanks for the help

It's been done. Depends on who you ask. I feel it will hold if he doesn't go crazy with it. The most important thing to remember is a GOOD TUNE!!

500rwhp is the bleeding edge for a stock 5.0L. I would at least make sure to get some ARP hardware buttoning everything together, a girdle, etc.

FWIW, I don't know the entire engine build, but it's always easier on everything if you maximize head/cam/intake/exhaust flow and run less boost to get the same power. There isn't as much heat generated and it's consequently safer in the long run. That'd be the only way I'd run that much power on a stock 5.0 block.

You all are saying that it may or may not be able to when you dont even know the specifics. The main thing is rpm. I have mainy friends who have superchargered stock 5.0s. They have anywhere from 450- to 550 rwhp. The main thing is rpm. A stock block 5.0 that pushes 550rwhp on 14lbs at 5500 rpm will last longer than a 500 rwhp with 11lbs and over 6000 rpm. Keep it under 5500, it may last a little while. all of you who say add a girdle. Remember what ryclef has always said, you cant polish a turd.

Add that boost and you engine will probably have the worlds easiest cam change feature.

If you're running a blower and are wanting to up the boost, keep in mind that is CRANK DRIVEN. By the SNOUT of the crank no less. So not only are you wanting to limit yourself to say 500rwhp. No remember the superchargers TAKES HP to MAKE HP. The blower can put probably about a 40hp drag on the motor at about 12lbs and high rpm....so you'd really be making 540rwhp (in theory). SO you're putting more load on the block that say a turbo or nitrous motor making the SAME rwhp. Add to that the fact that you're driving it by the crank snout which is supported by the weakest part of the entire block to begin with...the front webbing. If you've ever seen a 5.0 split, they go right up from the crank bore to the cam bore. Crank down on your blower belt and imagine how much MORE stress you're putting on that area. Just something to think about....

YES hundreds on people have made over 500 rwhp for a significant period of tim eon a stock block. Some are just that good...some are just lucky. Like said before though, its all in the tune.

I have 151,000+ miles on mine and just over 500 RWHP. I know it wont last forever but since I make my max power at 5,600 rpms, I am confident that it will last awhile.

stock block prepped by Paul's in Cincy (built 331), race girdle, custom build, vortech with stock pulley and power pipe making 10-12lb boost. Very safe tune, sees 6000rpm at the track, holding up strong with loc-wire gaskets. I think a lot of the longevity is in the prep of the block and the build and the nut behind the wheel. Makes around 500rwhp (dynojet) at 6000rpm. Any more power and would have went to a Dart, but it doesn't need anymore power.
