I have a 96 GT and i am looking for a tune. Dyno tune would be best. but i will need that after i put the blower on in a few months. What i am wondering is can i get a hand held tuner like a xcal. Or do i have to get a chip. Or if i get a xcal. will i have to get a chip later for the dyno tune. What will the xcal do for me right now? If it will work on a 96.

Mods are
P&P PI heads
typhoon intake
accufab TB/plenum
Longtubes
3.73

I have a S-trim waiting to go on i need a few small things but i want to make sure the car is perfect before the blower goes on.
Basically i want to buy a chip or a tuner once.

ok so i kinda did this bass ackwards and search after i posted.
So it looks like i can get a new or used unlocked xcal 2 or 3 (what is the difference?) and get tunes loaded onto the xcal and then load them onto my car. So Can i change the tune myself? i would need a wide band. but do i have to take it to a local shop to get tunes. or get them from online somewhere?

Then get some some dyno time??

x cal 2 or 3 will work fine for ya. You can purchase e mail tunes from various tuners around the country( i recommend excessive motorsports in Sioux City Iowa) or take it to a local shop and have them make a tune which will be a little more specific. If you really get the tuning bug like myself and want to try making your own tunes you can purchase sct advantage or pro racer package software either are great for fords. Your best bet right now is to just take it somewhere and have them get you on a dyno and go from there. O and get a wideband too like you said innovate lc1s are great if you have the extra cash go with the lm1. The sct tuners have analog outputs so you will be able to data log with the wideband of your choice.

O yea and get an xcal.

ps. get an xcal too.... :hammer:
