I drive a 94 gt 5.0, I want to build a new engine. I'm wondering if all the 302 blocks are the same? I've found a 1982 HO block. Will this work with all of my current parts?

yes it will. why not use the block to rebuild that is already in the car. when you do replace the engine thats in there now you will need to use the timing cover from your old block because the 94-95 has a specific timing cover.

Well I need to drive my mustang now, so I want to build another engine on a stand first. I guess I will have to get all the parts together and then use that timing cover. Or buy another one.

Look around and see if you can find a Mexican block. Check the classifieds and also check on other boards you can find some good blocks. Just make sure you get one from someone that has good rating and you do a search on whatever board you get one off of. You can also check your local craigslist. Or you could go with a 347 :) then build it up with time :) Then drop it in there when its done.

The 1982 block is NOT a roller block. It is a flat tappet block. To stay with a roller block like you have you need one that is 1985 or later. If you plan to use stock pistons stay away from the 1986 block with it's flat top pistons because you are limited on cam lift and cylinder head selection with these engines.

How much power you looking to build and how do you want it to behave? That will determine the block choice.

Mexican blocks can be like finding hen's teeth sometimes and may not be needed anyways. Of course they are also not roller blocks. You can put a retro-fit roller kit into any non-roller block though. In that case the 1968 302 block was also very good.

And to add to that, those retro fit roller lifters are friggin expensive!!

Also, if its a mild heads/cam/intake type deal or NA stroker 331 or 347 then the HO roller blocks are fine to around 500 HP...anything after that either build a 351W or get a DART Sportsman or Ford Racing 302 block

Stock blocks are a dime a dozen, I'm sure you wouldn't have too much of a problem finding a block from a fox or another 94-95. I plan on using a stock fox block for my next build. I've seen guys push 600+ horse through stock blocks, and I've also seen guys blow them apart with 400.
