using the formula that even mm&ff said was true was figuring the approx max hp range for injectors at 80% duty cycle.

(42lb injectors) 42 x .80 (80% duty cycle) / .60 (.60 is the bsfc) = 56

56 (hp supported per injector) x 8 (number of injectors) = approx how much hp can be supported by 8 42 lb injectors at .60 bsfc

which is 448hp also it's good to keep in mind that you can run injectors to 90% duty cycle but most tuners keep it around 80-85% duty cycle

60lb Max hp at 80% duty n/a = approx. 768hp (.50)
60lb Max hp at 80% duty t/c = approx. 640hp (.60)
60lb Max hp at 80% duty s/c = approx. 590hp. (.65)

39lb Max hp at 80% duty n/a = approx. 500hp (.50)
39lb Max hp at 80% duty t/c = approx. 416hp (.60)
39lb Max hp at 80% duty s/c = approx. 384hp (.65)

You will need to find a tuner that has sct software and you will need to buy a chip and have him custom tune it. You could buy the software (quarterhorse, tweecer) and tune it yourself but, assuming you haven't tuned a car before, it wouldn't be wise to practice on a turbo car.

Don't mean to hijack man but I have a question as well if you don't mind. There are a lot of myths and facts regarding injector size, proper tuning and what hp rates they can support. My engine builder built my engine knowing that a Vortech V2 (6 lbs boost) was going on it. They chose to use 24 pounders. I will know for sure when I go in fo a full dyno tune in a few weeks if these are going to leave me behind. The engine was also built for nitrous which I do have a 100 shot on it as well.

My question to you is, by looking at the build, should the injectors have been bigger? thanks guys!

The Build

Precision machined 302 roller cam block, precision ground micro-polished crankshaft, new connecting rods with 190,000 psi arp bolts,9:1 forged aluminum pistons, speed pro rings, 3 pc steel roller timing chain,E303 roller camshaft, true 1.6 ratio roller rockers, high volume oil pump,Edelbrock RPM aluminum cylinder heads (60cc) with 2.02/1.60 stainless steel valves,Hard seats for pump gas,1.45 valve springs,7 degree lock, Heavy duty chrome molly push rods,Heavy duty flywheel for auto application,Edelbrock EFI intake, manifold and plenum, polished fuel rails,24 lb injectors, Edelbrock 70mm TB and spacer, 73mm maf,Vortech V2 (6 lbs of boost at the moment), 100 shot NOS (dry), Mac unequal shorty headers into Pypes offroad X into custom Dynomax side exit mufflers. 3:73 gears, AODE built for the ride.. Motor was balanced, blueprinted and assembled by the Engine Factory.

So your tuner told you 24# injectors would be fine with a h/c/i 302 with 6#s of boost and a 100 DRY shot? :confused1:

theres the door? lol...

im going with 42's but the goal for now is to make 420hp, they should be a lot more tuner friendly at this power level and still leave me some head room to turn up the boost if i would like to push it to 450-470 but then again, i need to find a transmission to hold it, haha

I would go ahead and start shopping for injectors. 24s would probably be ok if it was n/a but not with boost and a dry shot. I'm guessing the builder probably just didn't want you to wash the cylinders by using a big injector without a tune. :dontknow:

That or he just wants to build you another motor. :laughing4: j/k

Are you at least running an fmu? Good decision on not spraying it right now...

:D Yeah, that could be the case too.. And yes, I am running the Vortech fuel management unit and adj fuel regulator but only the T-rex pump. I'm going to drop the tank this w/e and install a 255 as well. I'm eying some 42's but the price spread is quite significant. Any recommendations?

Honestly I would sell the fmu and put the money towards a set of 42s or 60s.

A local guy is selling a set of 42s for $180obo if you're interested. Here is a link:

If you would rather buy new I would go with 60s since they are only about $20 more than 42s and you can grow into them. IMO I'd rather grow into them then out of them.

ok for turbo it's easiest to go blow-thru go through the link and there are some good blow-thru maf at the bottom, a lightning 90mm maf can be used on a blow-thru setup but i would recommend using a dedicated blow-thru maf
