Ill be getting a motor, tranny, engine harness, and comp from an 01 cobra in about a week. Ive spun a bearing in my vert and this is the replacement. What kinda issues should I expect to run into putting it in? I'll be installing longtubes before it goes in also. Will all this bolt up relatively easily? Any differences I need to know about? Thanks for the help,

Marvin

Thats what im hoping. A local shop quoted me $1450 to do the swap, plus I have to bring them all the fluids, so I said f*** that and me and the guys are gonna give it a shot. I've been working on cars for awhile, so im confident in my abilities. We just put a set of longtubes on a 99 gt last week, can't be much more difficult than that.

One question: These motors will come out the top right? I don't necessarily have to drop the K-member do I?

Yes they will come out the top. There are lifting bosses in the heads. They are hard to find, but they are on the left front and right rear of the head.

Right side, but you can't see the bosses, they sit to far back on the head:

Got the motor today, got started on the tear down. What do I do about the fuel lines? there are 2 lines for the stock motor and a place for only one on the cobra. If im right the second is a return line, right? Do I just cap it off or what? Also, the engine hasn't been started in about a year. I was told I would want to prime the engine(engage the oil pump so everything is lubed) to prevent spinning a bearing. How would i go about doing this? Is it necessary? Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the help matt. Hows your swap coming btw?

It is coming along slower than I would like. But we have not run into any unexpected issues yet.

When you put the new oil filter on, top it off as much as you can. The engine will build oil presure quickly and it should not be a problem.

Do you have a tuner to turn off the PATS? The ECU wont recognize the key. Also, the wiring to the cluster and the trans mission are different so unless you change everything I imagine it will be a lot harder than you think.

Just use the stock engine harness and ECU. If you want to switch over to the COP design you can try using the stock harness, but the last time I used a 99+ harness on a Early SN it wouldn't stay running. I can only assume it's from the difference in pin placement of the Engine harness connector in the engine bay or the coil wiring.

I have an xcal 2. Whats does PATS mean? I received everything I would need( I was told), I have the ecu, all the wiring on the motor and trans, and two other little boxes. One is located in the passenger side fenderwell. Not sure where the other one is but i'll find it when I get a little further into it.

Got some stuff done last night, removed the hood, fenders and front bumper to get started. Then pulled the radiator, coolant reservoir out and drained them. Took out the x-pipe and driveshaft, removed the airbox and airtube, battery, miscellaneous electrical plugs.

You shouldnt run into any issues you have the ECU, otherwise you will have to have it tuned.

Good luck.

Unless he can turn off the pats, he will have an issue.

If you are going to use the Cobra ECU then you WILL NEED at minimum, the Gauge cluster from that ECU (wiring and signal wires are different), the wiring harness for the cluster and the engine harness and that's if you can turn of the pats. (This is stupid btw)

Use your wiring harness and ecu and reflash with the 4v fuel maps and tune file.

I've done all of this before.

So what you are saying is, if I don't have the PATS system turned off on my engine ECU the car WON'T start? I am talking about my 1966 Coup.

The xcal that I bought actually has tunes on it for a 99 cobra. So your saying i should use my stock harness and ecu and just flash it with the tune for the cobra? Meaning I should also retain the coil packs? Also, any suggestions about that fuel line? Thanks so far guys.

i didnt consider turning off the PATS an issue, i think more of it like a step on the swap
