hello im new here i got a 96 mustang gt with o/r h pipe and flowmaster

i had a problem with my car they said it was the iac valve, anyways i took it up to te ford dealership the car popped up 4 error codes iac, egr, dpfe?(have no idea what that is) and the canister purge valve. well i bought the iac from advance auto parts today and going to replace it this week my question is whats the black knob(or its not a knob) for on the top of the iac and what setting or turn should it be set on when i install it. i think it for he rpms right?

going to only replace the iac and the canister purge valve at the moment i heard the egr and dpfe(what ever that is) are for eminssions (sp?).

help me out please

the canister valve is on your passenger side near up near the firewall... mine also throws codes... it is indeed for emmisions. It opens the system to allow the gas vapor fumes to re-enter the cylinder for reburning. if it is faulty it will throw the codes when the motor is warm and usually at cruisng speeds (such as the highway.)

the iac, from what i thought, was located in the intake plumbing. right after the mass air flow meter. perhaps we are talking about different things? i got a new one from checker for $15.00... put it in my intake tube, and that was that...

dpfe?? ? ? ? ?

egr = the exhasut gas recirculation system. its takes exhaust gases from your headers and puts it back into your cylinder for re-burning. it helps with emissions....

i would check the system at the header and the throttle body. the EGR plugs into the rear of the throttle body plenum and the metal tube is covered in a plastic heat-protection mesh. check it for cracks and to make sure it makes a solid seal at the intake. then go under the car and inspect it on the drivers side header. make sure there is no cracks and the seal is strong. also check to make sure your header has all the header bolt in it while you are down there.

Differential Pressure Feedback EGR

The Differential Pressure Feedback EGR System Monitor is an on-board strategy designed to test the integrity and flow characteristics of the EGR system. The monitor is activated during EGR system operation and after certain base engine conditions are satisfied. Input from the ECT, CHT, IAT, TP and CKP sensors is required to activate the EGR System Monitor. Once activated, the EGR System Monitor will perform each of the tests described below during the engine modes and conditions indicated. Some of the EGR System Monitor tests are also performed during on demand self-test.
