I'd go straight for a supercharger, procharger or vortech, and set of blower cams
with a great tune shouldnt be any problem to get you into your range...

Check out the Trick Flow's new 4.6 heads (not totally sure if they're released yet). Those combined with a decent set of cams, LT's and a full exhaust will get you right around 400 on motor alone.

P.S. Your caps lock is on

P.S.S. Make sure you get the PI intake to go along with those cams and the TF heads.

the TFs arent out yet, but soon they will be.

PI swap is a great way to start, but many find it overwhelming to begin with.

A bolt-on blower (procharger, vortech) would be the easiest. if you get a solid tune with a full bolt on set up, you should be pushing 400-425.

a set up worth looking at (hope he posts on this thread for ya) is Justins. (May ROTM.) hes got a pretty killer 4.6

what do you mean a n/a 2v? Thats almost all of us.. haha. If you mean near 400.. no way without juice. blown97stanger would be a good person to talk to. NPI with a vortech I believe and knockin on 400s door. He has factory internals as well I believe.

i think you could get in high 300 range like 380 but you'd have to do all bolt ons, go PI swap with a amazing massive port job and the biggest cams you could find and even THEN! you'd have been better off going s/c lol

welcome to the board. Yea getting to 400 rwhp is gong to be your most expensive route. It includes the new heads from TFS (that arent out yet) and every bolt on you can think of Including switching to the PI intake or more expensive aftermarket options. You can make 400 AT THE CRANK with a nice 5.0 stroker kit. My buddy had this done, it cost him more than a blower but he got a full short block, rods, pistons, crank, stage 3 versions(dont know what company, but I think Patriot perf.) of both heads and cams and I think just touched 360 rwhp. Good luck but your best bet is to go straight for blower, longtube headers, blower cams and pi intake.

i meant to make 400rwhp with a v2 without a supercharger or the bottle in a long hard road and there is no one out there with a streetable 400+ v2 n/a

Thatd be an ideal build. If you dont have that cash though... you could pick up a pi engine and throw a blower on it. Wont make as much power with forged internals of course.

Welcome to SN95... Alot of good people here!

400rwhp na and streetable will never happen with a 4.6 2v. Hell youll have a hard enough time getting to 300rwhp na.

I finally gave up and gave the Mustang to the wife and bought an LS1 Z28. With just headers, ory, cat-back and lid will get you 350rwhp in an LS car.

I've seen a couple other dyno #'s from 4.6L 2V's, minor bolt-on's, exhaust, etc. and these heads making 350rwhp. That's not 400 but that's with untouched heads and a very mild or stock cam.

those heads do look promising.
I like the fact that they've moved the valve location and have the runners improved.
the larger chamber for compression compensation on the NPI's is very usefull for 96 to 97 owners.

I'd be weary about number Hype, and realistically 400 NA from a 281, I don't believe it.

Being a 98 you already have PI heads.
Realistically mid 400's is pushing the limit of the rotating assembly and transmission.
I'm talking loaded rear wheel power. if you want dynojet or flywheel HP you're fine at +23%

A blower will delivery more power than just new heads. if you can afford both, great, go for it.
you'll also want to look at at least a staul convertor for your tranny, and some basic suspension upgrades.

Yeah we will see.... :sleepy1:

Im one of those guys that was pissed at Ford back in 96 for putting the 4.6 SOHC in the Mustang. I wish Ford would have gave us atleast one more year with the 5.0/5.8's. Would be nice to have those engines with OBDII.

And Im sorry, You will not see 350rwhp with a mild cams and untouched heads n/a..... not with a 2v, or should I say not with a 281ci 2v.
