I've heard another car like yours once before, he was a member on here and i believe Larrocas was the shop and everything turned out to be normal it was just a really noisy drivetrain after the heads/cams were installed.

I would not be running the stock springs with those stage 2 cams for very long.

Also have you had it tuned yet?

They have similar specs as Comp 270ah's and they require springs, i can't understand why they say you don't have to have them.

The owner of hitech says they don't require new valve springs. These pi heads were low mileage heads as well.

Just pulled the valve cover.
Nothing seems out of place..no marks on the valve cover, the cam housings (whatever they're called) are tight..

What should I do? I need to replace the valve cover gaskets anyway..I know I shouldnt run the car without a valve cover on (to take a video for you guys..)
On the plus side, the oil looks good. No flakes of metal, not watered down..

Ill be outside taking off the pass valve cover. If anyone has any ideas, etc etc, shoot me a phone call/text

I dunno man,

It sounds Ok to me. Maybe a tune and that new downstream 02 sensor will cure it running rough like that.

I would have gotten new valve springs if it were me... Just saying.

Call me crazy, but the car doesn't sound bad. Sounds pretty healthy actually...
Love the lope! :headbang:

At nearly 180K, my stock valvetrain is somewhat noisy, but not that loud...

With oil starvation problems I could see it being that loud, though.

Well the noise is a little discerning, but you would think that if it was PTV issues the car would be in big trouble and he would know it. Also, maybe you should look into getting upgraded springs.... just a thought.

I'm going to change the oil..I know I'm a little low. I don't see anything out of place with the valve covers off. Idk..

I found the other car but he removed the video, but you can tell by our posts how loud it was.
I believe he ended up having PTV because of the install and VT and the shop that did the install worked out a deal on a new shortblock.

the guy in the link was driving his car with the ptv, have you spun your engine by hand to fee/listenl for any contact?

Hopefully you just have a noisy drivetrain but trying to help you figure it out.

doesnt sound like ptv to me either did you oil the cams up real good when you put them in really sounds like either its not getting enough oil or slack in one of the timing chains. i would pull the cover and double check timing and tension on the chains. im really leaning towards the tension. i heard a 98 gt last week sound like this and it was a sloppy chain but it had 190k on it but the noise was the same

he double checked the chain tension, everything was good from what he told me.. man i think you just have a noisy valvetrain. as rare/crazy as that sounds. with a tune and 02sensor it'll idle/run better, but either way i think the noise will be there forever bro.

I made 24 more whp with the pi cams than I did with the comp stage 2's. I ended up with ptv only at above 5k rpm on the dyno. It ran fine with a street tune and did not show itself untill the lifters puff up a little at higher rpm. I would get your car to a mechanic asap. Some cars can clear larger lift and longer duration camshafts but the clearances in a pi swapped car are not as forgiving. I could not put the cam in my setup and ended up fing up a crank. Good luck and let us know what the problem is when you find it. My money is on ptv no matter what the guy at the cam place said. When my mechanic and I talked to comp they told us ours would work at first. A lot of cam specs and designers have little knowledge about the pi swap and the different clearances of a flat top style piston in a setup that is used to a little dish.

I grinded down the valves to insure there was .100 thouasands of clearance from the pistons..We notched in the pistons as well, and when we turned the motor over by hand there was no interferance. I dont see how its PTV, and doubt it is..but I don tknow. Time will tell.
