Backstory: '96 Cobra with JLT CAI, Longtubes, X-Pipe, Dumps, Zex Wet Kit. I have been running a 75 shot on my stock tune.

Today I picked up an SCT Tuner at a swap meet for $100. It has the N/A tune that came on it for '96-'98 Cobras which I have installed. It also has a tune for a 150 shot. I have the jets for a 125 shot and am content with that. Is there any major problems for running a 125 shot on the 150 tune? I assume if anything it will run rich -- kind of a safe tune. Please educate me on this. Would it be bad to have timing pulled too much? Or should I just shell out the $10 for the 150 jets? Is a 150 shot fairly safe on these motors?

Thanks for the input! I will probably run the 125 jets, atleast for now. A 150 shot sounds good to my right foot, but probably not to my internals. Would like to hear what anyone else thinks.

not sure why you would want to run a NO2 setup under anything other the ideal conditions. Seems like your setting yourself up for failure honestly as you have no idea what is really on that thing program wise. I would be worried that the dude at the swap meet told you what ever you wanted to hear to get you to buy it since he knows he will be miles away from you when something happens. Your trusting your motor to a dude at the swap meet and the info he told you, does that really make sence now?

I would get a good set of NGK plugs, one range colder than stock. Supposedly they're really good for tuning in a nitrous shot. I'd install the 150 tune and spray 125, make a pass at the track and pull the plugs as soon as you get back to the pits. You should be able to adjust your fuel to get a decent mixture by changing the jets up or down a size. Here's a good atricle on reading plugs http://www.angelfire.com/fl4/pontiacdude428/Readplugs.html

The only advise I will give you is GET A COSTUME TUNE. I have ran n2o on a couple of cars including my 95 cobra and never any probs. or worries

just my .02 but the answear to your ? Im sure you will be fine but also rich, and if your going to play might as well make it count.

I would play it safe and not take him at face value and get a tune FOR YOUR CAR. It would be nice if we could all use each others tunes that easy but its just not normally the case.

The tuner was sitting at a booth for $150. It just said 96-98 Cobra so I asked about it and then learned of the nitrous tune. If I was trying to illegitimately get rid of a tuner I would probably lie saying it had a tune that is appealing to a larger group of people than those who can use a tune for a 150 shot. How many of those guys are out there? How many 4v Cobras on this site are running nitrous period? How would he know what I wanted to hear? The car it was on and mine have almost identical mods. And as previously stated, running 125 jets with the 150 will result in a "safe" tune if anything. I didn't ask if you thought I got screwed over, I asked a fundamental question about using smaller jets than a tune was written for.

FTR, I switched to colder plugs before I ever sprayed.

I had no idea you had gone to the length of discussing mods on both the car that was programmed too as well as yours. What are teh chances that you would find a tuner, with the same mods and only off by a 25 shot of nitrous? Much much less then the chance that there is something different if you ask me. I mean whats the big deal, its only reprogramming your computer, not like its important or anything..... Hopefully it will work out for you but me I would pay the extra couple of bucks to get a tune that is made for your car and your car only and be safe. The tunes are not that expensive really, why not do it right for a few bucks more?
