I hear what your saying. I've tried a number of them, and there are a bunch of brands that work very well.
I've been happy with the optimum line, and Justin's line, before that I tried 4-5 other brands and they all work better than the part store variety.
For "Show quality" you need to do all the steps, but the main thing is you need to prep your paint, and get all the swirl marks and oxidation off of it, and polish it nice and smooth. Good products, Porter cable with the right pads, and lots of elbow grease.
you may want to polish it more than once if you've never done it before.
The PC is nice to work with and very hard to do any dammage with.
Get some orange cutting pads, and a few finishing pads.
Mainly you need to prep the surface so it's niiiiice and smooth, and the wax/sealer will really shine.
