So yesterday my car was overheating. I noticed that the fan isn't turning on at all. I think it might be the thermostat so I'm going to try and replace that first, but I had a question. Should I get a stock 192 degree one from ford? or a 180 degree one, or 160 degree one? What's the difference and benifits. Are there any downsides? :TY:

I hope this works out, otherwise what do you guys think it might be. There are no leaks. The only sign is the fan isn't working.

go out to your car right now. Fire it up and turn AC to Max AC. If your fan does not turn on you most likely have a bad fan.

Damn I wish I had my car with me right now. I'm at work and it's at home. So if I'm understanding correctly...whenever the A/C is on max the electric fan should go on?

Yes. If the fan does not turn on then you most likely have a bad fan. If your fan does turn on, replace the thermostat.

Does it overheat only with the AC on?

It overheated in 80 degree weather with the A/C off. I'm going to re-wire my fan so I can manually turn it on and hopefully that helps.

This morning I replaced my thermostat with a stock one from Autozone. I also tried re-wiring/grounding my fan so I can turn it on manually. The car isn't overheating, but it isn't very hot out either. The fan isn't turning on with the wire grounded and/or the A/C on. :wall: Does this mean that my fan is bad and I should buy a new one?

Yeah man... See if you can get a new one. Do you know if your car has had the radiator recall work done? if it has then you are going to want to look for 97-up fans. if it hasn't you can still use the 97-up fans but you have to do some modifications to the plastic to make it work. Nothing hard, you will see what I am talking about. I picked up a 99 fan for like 70 bucks from a local guy. Look on craigslist you should be able to find one fairly cheap.

I don't know if it has had radiator recall work done, but it's a 98 so I don't know if that makes a difference. I'm going to ask my friend at Ford how much he can get one for with his discount then, check out craigslist and some junkyards.

damn... if I had read your sig I would have known it was a 98 LOL Disregard what I said about the recall then. Any fan from 97-up will work for you.
