The "best" combo is a personal thing and really comes down to your goals, but after my friends owning everything from stock to 1100hp street monsters, I find the 400-600hp range is just perfect for a street cruiser. And what you said about being able to enjoy it on the street is spot on. My HCI 302 shitbox doesn't make enough power to get out of hand, sounds great and is a real blast to drive. I might shove a 347 under there at some point just for a little more low end, but the rest of my engine package is all the fun I need on the street.
