ok here's my plan. i want to get my gt40 heads and intake port matched and add the steeda 19 cam. what would have to be changed with the addition of that cam? valve springs, pushrods, rockers? how much hp/trq could i expect with this set up and my mods?

Power range won't move much but obviously power will increase.

Lower end numbers will stay the same but mid range and top end will increase considerably.

You'll want to change the pushrods and springs. Assuming your rockers are cobra rollers..your rockers will be just fine.

There are people that can do amazing work on GT40/E7 heads. My friend Dave is one of them. Keep in mind port work on iron heads is a lot more than aluminum.

He has gotten close to 200cfm on GT40's before.

I would have tom moss port your lower intake.

i would get a new intake manifold before spending the money to port the one you have the only reason the guys that do that to the cobra intake is for stock eliminator drag racing they are limited to stock parts. they go as fast as they do because the cars are lightened up a ton.

for around the 300hp mark, the cobra intake should suit your needs just fine. I would get GT40s ported, the Steeda 19 cam is a
pretty good cam for the money, upgrade the valve springs, upgrade to 1.6 or 1.7 roller rockers, get a tune (for drivability reasons)
and you should have a fun, streetable, 270rwhp car.

i thought the cobra intake was really good? im not looking for anything above 300 hp really.
It is a great intake and especially with the lower ported to a Felpro 1250 gasket (or 1262 for some real good cfm #er's)

you'll be fine with stock valve springs, unless they have many miles on them. Really a cam shaft would suit you just fine.

make sure with the 1.7s you won't have any valve to piston clearance issues. I can't remember what the lift is of that cam, but for some reason I think it should still be good...
I would definitely upgrade the springs and pushrods though. check the length of pushrod once you get the cam

the gt40 manifold is ok on a stock engine. depending on how much tmoss charges you could sell it and get a better one for what you have invested in a stock manifold

Pushrods yes, springs no. I talked to a ford racing engineer. The factory 5.0 valve springs on a roller motor are rated to .540 lift. The ford racing springs that you buy in there book are actually factory springs from ford. Hence, no reason.

you'll have to check when you get the cam for the length of the pushrods with a pushrod tester. You could also search for what others have got and maybe that will work with shims, but your taking a guess there...

I would use a length checker. Then pick up a set of hardened pushrods the correct link. As for replacing them, thats not the point. Unless the motors slap worn out or has many miles, I wouldn't see the reason in replacing them.

i always thought that the reason for replacing the stock ones are so you can get stronger forged ones to replace them because of more pressure due to the cam on them?

Unless your building a serious motor, you won't require a super huge cam in the first place. Size has nothing to do with the "lope" sound that everyone wants, LSA and duration due. You won't need much of a cam in the first place. Your stock one isn't to bad, you'd almost be better off with a stock gt cam w/ 1.7s. That would wake the car up
