Ok i am new to the forums but not new to stangs.I have owned all 4.6 just untill the other day I picked up a 5.0 and now I have tons of ?'s.How do I get tuned on the 95 stang? what do I get tuned with and is a mail in tune fine or do I need to dyno tune it? and if I had mild trickflow heads on and a e303 cam put in do i need to tune it? And iI never ask this ? but i will now that times are rough, whats the cheapest route to go lol!

Mail order tune is fine, the tfs stage 1 will work better with the heads instead of the e303, A tune is not exactly necessary, but can help your driveability, and you might be able to squeeze out a couple more horses. I don't really understand the cheapest question, can you be a little more specific. BTW welcome to the forum, nows a good time to post an intro.

I personally wouldn't waste my money on a mail order tune, either get it tuned properly or just wing it. You'll need a tune to get the setup running ideal and making optimal power, though.

if you have a dyno/tune shop near you take it to them. Its better then having a guesstimated mail order tune

The shop can burn you a chip there, just know that dyno time is not cheap

its the norm for a dyno tune chip to cost $400-$500. Mine cost $450 and its $150 for every retune.

I like that $150 for a retune, that seems quite reasonable.
then you would LOVE my shop! I only charge for dyno time, and if it's something I can do without the dyno, then it's free. I don't charge for updating or retuning a chip when you make mods. My dyno time for retunes is 75 bucks an hour, with 75 being the minimum as it takes a bit of time to strap it down and hook up all the sensors.
Anyway OP, yes, don't waste your time on a mail order tune, I could send you one, but you will be much better off getting it tuned on the dyno. As for cheapest route on parts, buy used man. Certain things you don't buy used, others you can, just buy from a reputable seller. Heads, intakes, rockers, cams etc, all can be had at a savings.

Nice...I wish mine was that price.

$650 a tune...that includes dyno time, chip, and tune.

Hes pretty good at what he does so I have no prob doing the $150 for a retune and its a reasonable price. I'll have a new intake on by next weekend and hopefully better heads in the spring so I'll be going back once again for a retune.

better heads than AFR 185s? Must be AFR 205s?

Like has been said before mail order is a waste, it can get you by for a trip to far away dyno shop, but it'll never be perfect. Used parts are the way to go, just make sure when you buy used heads that you take them to a machine shop and have them looked over, unless you absolutly trust the guy you get them from.
