rebuilding differential,ne websites with step by step instructions?ne 1 know how

well the grinding/swishing noise is deffinetly coming from the differential but i am not comfortable just tearing right into it without knowing alot about differentials-im thinking its the pinion or a bearing but not to sure-is ther some good websites that offer step by step instructions on replacing parts in a differential?and when i do open it up how can i tell exactly what it is? can i tell just by looking it at?is ther a certain way you can tell what it is or what part is bad just by looking at it?what do i need to do when i open it up?what am i looking for?is ther a way you can pin point exactly what it is? i cant afford to take it to a shop i am in college and rent is to high so im stuck having to work on it myself-and i have mostly basic tools-ne good websites?

Setting up or rebuilding rear axles is considered an art form in the auto industry. If you've never done it and have know idea what to look for, send it to someone who has. The big tell tale sign that something is wrong will be the wear pattern on the ring gear.

First off i would pull the back cover off and check to see if you have any broken spots or abnormal wear on any of the gears. Also note the condition of the fluid. If the gears are ok I would pull the diff out (4 bolts) and check the bearings and races for scoring or galling. Also pull the axles out and see if the wheel bearing in the axle tubes are scored up. Chances are though if something IS wrong, it's going to take more than basic hand tools... there are a few specialized tools you need. It isn't hard per say but it is time consuming to get the gear mesh set up right. I pulled the entire axle out of my car to do gears, t-lok rebuild, bearings and seals.
