Ok so I got the motor back together. At first it ran fine. But I noticed today that the RR are making noise. I had one making noise yesterday so I took off the cover and retorqued all of the rockers on that side. Now it sounds like they are all making the noise. As soon as its nice out im going to take both off and loctite and retorque them again. Any other ideas. All torqed down to spec within the requirement. And were quiet at one time. Could this maybe be an exhaust leak that sounds like the lifters maybe? Thanks for the help

Might be an exhaust leak. Mine is leaking at the back of the header on the driver side and it can sound like rocker noise, but there is a difference. Rule out the exhaust first. Stupid shop wouldn't fix my exhaust leak saying that don't do "aftermarket headers". Sadly, I have to fix it on Saturday, the day of the car show here :'(.

I can hear mine ticking w/ the hood up. Been like that since I got it 3 years ago. Some aftermarket RR just make some noise.

Im am going to take the covers of and redo them. When I did them the first time they were all within spec. I have to imagine they are correct since they were quiet the first day. They are brand new header gaskets with stage 8 locking bolts(which I have to say I dont like very much). Just have to wait for a nice day. Its raining here. It is really loud to the point I can hear them when the car is just idleing. Or if im driving next to a curb of some kind I can hear the echo.

mine are pretty loud.... your situation sounds just like mine... im guessing its just the rockers... i have measured and re-measured time and time again, with no change...

Ported e7's, cobra 1.7s, and a ecam

What springs are on your heads dude? If you don't have any good aftermarket springs like the TFS springs for stock ford cast iron heads or Comp/Crane etc that will support the cam, you're having valve float which is not good.

1.7's and E Cam is roughly 220/220 .528/.528 and the stock springs/stock replacement springs only support .500 safely.

Also, you ALWAYS have to measure for pushrods. I bought 1 piece Crane Chromoly hardened pushrods that are listed for my cam. I installed them, the car ran for 30 seconds and I knew they were the wrong size.

Now I have virtually brand new $100 pushrods sitting here doing nothing.

No ones fault but my own.

Im not sure on the springs themselves. I know they were upgraded with the previous owner when he was using a fcam with the 1.7's. They are a dual coil spring. They are not stock.

I feel your pain, mine does the same thing, however I've pulled off the covers, and backed off the rockers til I can hear a change in clicking, and I know they are all tightened down correctly. Mine just tick, I know my pushrods are the rightlength too, with springs good to .650 lift.

Im going to check the wear pattern if weather permits on tuesday and if it is off. A guy from one of the speed shops around here is going to measure mine for me. So the prob will be fixed one way or another soon.

Still seems like something is wrong, my rockers didn't make any noise stock and they still don't now so def. check the wear pattern.

I have cobra 1.7's and they tick a little bit as well. Virtually silent when the car is cold but make a little noise when the car is warm. Most folks I talk to with these rockers complain of a ticking. Ford actually used a special sound deadening coating on all 93-95 Cobra valve covers....

Interesting. Well I'm still using my stock valve covers so maybe that's why I don't hear mine.

everyone says the 1.7 cobra rr are just noisy mine were to untill i got the correct pushrods and used the shims they sell for them.
you are susposed to have some preload on the lifter, very little i forget the #s but some thing like .002 - .005 what that does is puts a little
bit of constant pressure on the lifter which in turn tightens up the whole opperation
