I just got a 1997 cobra 4V I it runs right in the middle of the gauge during normal driving. When I drive it a little hard the temp climbs FAST like all the way to the L (normaL)on the gauge. And I noticed this morning the weather was a little on the cold side it took it 15 miles to warm up. Am I looking at a thermostat problem. Thanks in advance for the help.

These cars are known for running hot...I changed my t-stat, relocated it, and was never able to get it to run as cool as it does now. The car is now running w/o any t-stat, and it doesn't go over the halfway point down here in Fla in the middle of the summer under hard driving.

I don't know for sure. The mod motors can be a little different sometimes than the pushrods I'm used to.

In the 97 cobra, fill the overflow/reservoir to the max line and leave the cap off. Remove the plug on the coolant crossover with a 1/4" extension...put a funnel in place of the crossover cap (one like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400032437502&crlp=1_263602_304652&ff4=263602_304652&viewitem=&guid=1c6ace6012c0a02652d315b3fffcf23e&hlp=false&rvr_id=176854321316&ua=M*S%3F&itemid=400032437502#ht_718wt_941 ), and fill with water/coolant until the overflow is back at the max line (sometimes the coolant level will go down when the crossover cap is removed) and put the overflow cap back on. Be sure someone is at the funnel holding it on (make sure it's in tight so water doesn't seep out the base), fill with water and start the car. BE SURE THERE IS CONSTANTLY WATER IN THE FUNNEL! Let the car run for a bit...once the coolant cycles and the car gets up to temperature to where the t-stat opens, you can plug the crossover back up ONLY if the funnel is holding water (you can tell almost immediately if there are air bubbles in the system). You can also squeeze the rad hoses to release any bubbles stuck to the walls.

Hope I explained it clearly!

Not many. Just a cold air intake and full Magnaflow exhaust with high flow cats. That's all for the power-train. Everything else is just suspension mods. This is my first SN95 mustang I have only had it for 3 weeks and am trying to learn a little bout 4.6 4V mod motors. I have owned a 1979 5.0 mustang. A 1989 GT and a 1996 Ford Lightning. And now own a 2001 F-350 4x4 Super Crew 7.3 Turbo Diesel .Thus is just my next step in my love affair with Ford power.
