With the car almost ready to start going back together I have considered possibly getting a service manual that would show the assembly as clearly as possible. Curious as far as Haynes/Chilton/ford what everyone has and likes/recommends? The ford manuals seem to be pretty pricey and just wondering fi they are worth it or not...

after some searching I pulled the trigger on these. Use and a little dirty so I will not feel bad when I put greasy fingerprints in it. Hopefully I will not need them much but its good to have then in case.

You'll be very happy most oe books are on par, those others have the wrong wiring and leave out steps. Working for the brand you really get spoiled

I know better then to think that a single book, or even multiple books will solve every solution. I am use to wiring diagrams being wrong most of the time and needing to check EVERY wire prior to tapping it. 10+ yrs installing taught me that lesson that I never cheat on. I don't even have any specific plans on what I will need it for but just willing to bet that it will get some use in the rebuild....

My favorite manual is Google. You can become a master tech by mastering the ways of the Google. LOL

sometimes but then again the net has also known to have bad info from time and can be hard to tell the good from the bad. When I want info on my car and go to the net I would come here to ask before hoping to find the correct answer to my question from some random internet stranger. I mean I would bet that for any question you have the net has more wrong answers then right.

Personally I always get the OEM service manuals, they are hard to replace with Chiltons/Haynes or the net. The net might have it all, but finding it can be a pain. Everything is there in the book, it's just a matter of looking through it and finding. I have used the OEM books a lot, particularly the wiring one, to help me understand how things work.

eBay is usually a good source for books, I just bought a second set of manuals (including a Haynes one) for $40 that's in almost new condition - much better condition than the other manuals I have (cover torn off, pages creased and dirty, lots of wear, etc).

They have them on cd for cheaper and I considered it but I really wanted something that was solid/real/that I know where it is. I could just see the cd getting shuffled into a stack of audio cd's or or somehow misplaced/lost or just scratched or end up getting a new computer and it would not work with the new os or something stupid.

I'm with you - I prefer the paper. Even with regular books these days, I have some Kindle books but I just prefer the real thing.
