If i were you my priority would be to move on with my life. Ideally you would hand him the keys to the car and be done with it however you do need wheels. I'd look for a better job or pick up some hours and save everything i could and buy something reliable. It doesn't have to be a mustang, just something reliable that won't nickle and dime you to death and continue to work towards being self sufficient.
