Stereo+Alternator Noise When using AUX

Hello, guys i just installed my 1st aftermarket radio. My car already had a AM radio installed with a harness which i removed and just added the one from the box. I didn't change how wires were routed or anything.

The problem is whenever i have a mp3 player/phone hooked up via AUX to the radio its fine. Its soon as i plug in the phone/mp3 to the cig. lighter (Charging) i hear a lot of noise. Its a constant high pitch sound that moves with the RPM's so im guessing its the ALTERNATOR changing.


Now i been thinking i installed something wrong, but i didn't use any RCA plugs. (stock amp) I also did a lot of searching and cars from the factory with the stock radio does the same exact thing.

Just wondering if this is normal? Or is something screwed up? I already know i can get a "Ground Loop Isolator" which will cure my problem 100%, but im wondering if i screwed up my install.

I soldered every connection i made then wrapped it in electrical tape, so i have no idea whats going on. My friend with a new 2011 STOCK radio Impala has the same problem with his ipod and his car. Soon as he plugs it in to start changing.. he gets alternator noise.

are your rcs's wires cannot be ran next to the powerwire or remote wires. powers should be ran on one side and signal wires on other, such as driver and passenger side...OR you may pick up interferance like you are...alot of times the pich will change as you hit the gas but is only knoticable on low to no volume but still anoying...

So your saying .. the wires on the harness can't be routed together?

o wait, no rcs's....just check your connections and check manual guide for ur mp3 player, it may not be up to standard and is causing interferance...try an ipod !

Just to be sure. On the wire harness. You have a wire for Right Rear, Left rear. Right front left front. Also Ground,Accessory and memory.
Can all these be wire tied together or do the Ground/accessory/memory have to be separate from the speaker wires on the harness?

edit: Going to buy a new AUX cable from radioshack today. Maybe this one is going bad.

I have chased many many noise problems and even got desperate to the point of trying a loop isolator and honestly it only worked on time ever in the 15 yrs I installed.

First thing I would check for you is what I think is called the DV voltage condensor or something like that.... Look at the coil on the motor and you will see a small cylinder mounted too the back of it, that is it. Check its connections that they are tight and clean, probably a good idea to disconnect it and then clean the connections rather then just looking honestly.

After that I will sound like a broken tech-record but its true, check your grounds. Again looking really doesn't do much good. Remove the ground, use some sand paper to clean the conections(both sides) and then tighten them down.

is/was this a mach system or just the standard 5 x 7's and not tweeters in the mirrors?

Not sure what i did but the noise is 98.9% gone. I cut the extra RCA adapter off the harness the PO installed. Didn't notice any change.

Brought a new 3.5 MM AUX cable- No change.

Played around with the wires- No change

Play around with the ground behind the radio- No change.

Drove around after all that. The noise is 98.9% gone for some reason.

Ill let you guys know how it is after i drive around more. This problem won't matter when i get a USB stick for my mp3s because i wont need the AUX cable. The problem is only there when using a AUX cable and charging at the same time. For now im happy with it the AUX cable and noise reduction.
