Hello all i have been looking at updating my stereo for a while now. When i got the car 6 years ago it had one hell of a pos jvc aftermarket cassette player. Switched the deck out to a pioneer deh-5800 later on up graded to the mach460 with pioneer speakers . also up graded the tweeters in the doors. After having a pop can explode in the car over the summer, i have had the itch to get a new head unit since mine gotten sticky. it is now cleaned and soda free and works perfect. Now what im looking for is to do a double din conversion but everywhere i have looked, i see what u have to cut out but I have no idea on how they mount the double din stereos in place since there isnt a fair place to mount the stereo in the first place. What i am looking at is this. i know it isnt much of a touch screen, but i have looked around it is pretty much what i am looking for. Just something that looks updated.

I upgraded my 99 cobra to a double DIN setup. All you need to do is cut the two tabs off on the sides with a dremel or something like that. Get the double din bezel and also get the shifter bezel too, or else the two pieces won't line up. For the bracket to hold the radio up, you just need to get any piece of metal, find out how tall it needs to be, cut it and drill a hole for the mounting point on the back of the radio to fasten to it. Any piece of steel will work really. Check out the braket area at the hardware or home depot.
While I was at it, I also moved the fog lights, traction control and rear defroster buttons to the center. Here's the end result. I have the mach 460 sound system and also have two 12" pioneers in the trunk in a specially made box to fit the convertible SN95 trunk area. The amp and all the wires are completely hidden.

9838stang talk to tony or check out his build thread......hes in the process of it right now

I looked at his build. he has a lot of talent and the work he is doing on that bezel is way over my head. What i am looking for is installing the 01-04 bezel into my car. It looks easy enough and it doesnt involve to much prep work it looks like. other than fabricating up a mounting tab or two.

There was a good write-up that I can't find now unfortunatly. As I said earlier they just bent a piece of flat-stock into a C-shape, and mounted it with the opening to the "C" facing down and threw a screws through the sides of the bracket into the dash to hold it. To mount the deck to the bracket he drilled some holes though the piece it rested on and then there are mounting holes on the bottom of the deck that he used to mount the deck to the bracket. Hardest part I would see about that process would be just lining the deck/bracket up so that the dash fit over it. Get some good 3m double sided tape and use that to hold the bracket in place temporarily to see if its in the right spot. You will probably need to remove/replace the dash section a few times to line it up properly but take a little time and you should be able to get it in place and to hold with the tape. Once you have it lined up just use some self-tapping screws to hold it into the dash, don't bother removing the tape.
