hey all. I have a question. I used to have a mustang that had the mach 460 system in it. I changed the cd player to an aftermarket and it sounded awesome. I now have a 94 gt which does not have the mach 460 and I have changed the cd player and all 4 speakers and it still doesnt sound as good as the one with the mach 460. whats up with that? also I have 1 amp under the cd player, even if i dont have the mach 460 system can i use that amp? what plugs get connected into it? I have like a bunch of plugs behind the stereo.

did you bypass the stock amps to run the infinities or are they hooked up to the same wires the stock woofers(5x7s) were hooked up too?

Technically the stock speakers are or at least have "subwoofers". As they are a combined woofer/tweeter.
There are several reasons for the stereo systems to sound different. First off the mach 460 system uses dedicated speakers for different frequencies. There are "subwoofers" and tweeters in the back with the mach 460 and full range speakers with tweeters in the doors. The rear speakers are also in an enclosure the was built to those specific speakers. The last thing is th use of dedicated amps in the 460 that give it a higher output than the average aftermarket cd player (200 watts vs 460 watts)
The non 460 systems have nothing but a single amp in the dash and 4 full range speakers. The best thing to do is run your own wires to your deck and bypass that tiny amp. Realistically to get the best sound out of those infinity speakers you need to seal off the doors with dynomat and get an aftermarket amp to feed them more power. They will sound best with 50 watts per channel rms.hope this helps

there is NO reason to run any wire in an SN no matter what stereo you have unless you are upgrading to a competition level system. The stock wire is there and you could not hear the difference.
As they said you have two completely different systems is why they sound different. Add a sub and you will get the low end you want to match the rich infinity tweeters.

Ditto that. I have a mid grade setup and I can attest different speaker wire than stock makes no difference.
And definitely add an aftermarket sub. I have two punch 10s and infinity separates. Sounds excellent.

Even just a single sub, self amplified like the infinity bass-link or a bazooka tube will fill in what your missing.

May sound stupid... Did you get all your settings right on the head unit? When I swapped in my kenwood flipout I had things where I thought sounded good. Then I switched to my pioneer double din that has a much larger level of frequency adjusters and I can honestly say it sounds 1000x better now. I got the lows set to the point where I can crank it and it feels like I have a 10 in the trunk, and the highs are perfectly matched to them. Go through your settings again man. Tho.. I do have the 460

Don't be afraid to put new tweeters in the old 460 pods, put some good mids in the doors, and then good drivers on the back lid. If you take that, with a decent head unit, and some good adjustment (like stated above), you're going to get a good sound. If you put some good performance drivers in the old 460 casing in the back, you're going to get good bass response without a sub.
That being said, those infinity tubes are great as well, and powered. I'm often confused why so many on the forum are obsessed with the 460 system, its not that good IMO. I could never get a 460 to sound anything close to my current 2012 Honda Accord stock system, its 1990's technology. Go with the newer stuff. If all else fails, go to a good car stereo shop and let them know what you're trying to accomplish. They will usually help you out. The big stores like Best Buy aren't going to give you as much detail.

the thing with subs is that they will allow your smaller speakers to play clearer as well because they will not play the bass notes the subs play. If you just want it all around louder though a 4 channel amp with some more power to the speakers will make them sound better as well.
