Strange noise occurs when turning

After I drive for a good 15-20 miles I begin to hear a "whoa-whoa-whoa", warping sound when I make turns. Had my whole front end steering done think maybe it was that but the sound appears to come from the rear of the car. Can't tell if it appears due to mileage or heat after driving awhile. It has been going on for years but I can't seem to see/find any ill effects because of this. From an AI research, it is suggesting it might be a rear differential? Thoughts? What should I ask when I take it to a mechanic?

not a ton to go from here, can you record it? could be a wheel bearing, could be a bent brake dust shield barely touching the rotor, could be failing differential, could be you're listening to watsky..

carriage bearing is slowly out the door
if you do not know how to work on rear ends
take it to shop that dose
i have seen many rear ends fail from that sound
can you feel it in the center line while driving and turning corners

Thx for the reply guys. No, it does not appear to be based on speed or RPM's. Only maybe time or distance. Maybe that causes the issue to heat up? I have thought about trying to record it (can recordings be attached here). Like I said, been going on for years. Drove to Las Vegas a few years back and the sound was very present when I did pull off the highway after a 100 miles for some lunch. But after lunch (after some time), the sound is gone. It usually happens like when I turn fairly sharply or into a parking spot. Not simple turns or sways when driving. I definitely won't work on this myself. Figure I will let it "heat-up" and then pull into my mechanic's location so they can hear it.

Low power steering fluid? Check the steering pump fluids. Low fluid would create the type of sound you describe. A failing steering pump will create the same sound regardless of fluid levels

New buyer of a 2002 Roush Stage 2 manual. I too have odd sounds from back end when turning sharper corners. I suspect differential, Ive checked tire rub. Shock mounts and the likes, all of that seems good to go. Ive waited 38yrs to get back into a mustang and this was my purchase, and so far, its one of the major issues I feel I need to address NOW. Im trying to find a decent shop in Abilene Texas whom could handle the Roush Diff. And also, am thankful there is a place like this I can go and check for cool stang folks.

I have not taken in my stang to have it looked at for this issue. I have to drive at least 20+ miles before you will start to hear it. As soon as I do I will let people here know what they found.

As it worms up metal will expand
And bearing will have more play in them

Thanks Rau03Mach, sounds like a good thing to watch for. I did check the typical on wheel bearings, warmed up the car, jacked it up and pulled on the tires back and forth for play, no play, of course now that Im thinking about it, hahaha, i probably had the parking break on. DOH! Will deff have to check on that could be a simple fix, but, i do notice on that turn in that the diff will make a small clunk so no matter, will feel safer to have the diff looked at. Also had the check engine light pop on today. Again I just purchased it and am looking at the little things. I will check other posts for that one. HONORS to all.

Could be a wheel bearing, when you turn it's putting a little more pressure on that side.
