Supercharger/Turbo pros/cons

Hey guys..

So I just got a 5.0 car, and once I get used to it am looking to do a turbo set up. Thats what i orginally wanted to do, as I can do the kit for around 2500. I am wanting 400 rwhp outta the car. However, I'm seeing this vortech kit on ebay, that says about 6-8 psi of boost, which I know isnt a whole lot but could perhaps get the car close to 350-400 rwhp.. (Gt40p heads, tf stage 1 cam, trickflow street burner intake upper/lower..etc)

Im wondering what to do..turbo cars seem to be a little more complex in tuning..I really dont want to detonate the motor, and will have it have a very safe tune..but I could save some money on this supercharger..I know turbo cars are more efficeient..Hmm

I was looking at on 3's performance kit, which Ive heard good things about..and also another brands kit as well..Not sure what Im gonna do.

I have always been partial to turbo's myself. They are more efficient in making power. Especially for a street car i really like turbo's due to the fact that it is only in boost when i want it to be. and not boosting constantly

Did you do a custom kit? Or what did you do? How much did you end up spending? Power ratings..?

Its a boost brothers kit. Im about 2500 into it. and that is the complete kit, complete fuel system, and clutch in two weeks. I dont have any power number yet cuz the motor is outta the car shortly after the turbo was put on to re-seal everything and stuff

Damn. Ill have to check them out..I was wanting to throw a turbo kit on and keep low boost on, then do a rebuild on the motor over the winter with forged pistons..2500 complete isnt bad at all. What kind of turbo/size?

s/c doesn't boost constantly either. bypass valve doesn't close until there is no vacuum

Its all really on how much you want to spend, Kenne Bell makes very good Supercharger Kits that range from 300 to a whopping 750 hp depending on what you want. I am a Turbo fan but this time im going supercharged just cause i want to bypass all that necessary piping and oil feeds required from a turbo......but its up to you really

Cost wise..Turbos are the way to go, no?

A good recognized Turbo kit will cost you more or less the same as a good Supercharger Kit, there are Turbo Kits around for cheaper (Boost Brothers) but you will need to add electronics (engine management, injectors ect) to get it to run well, on the long run it will cost you the same as a Supercharger kit if not more after all is done......If you get a Kit that was made for your make and model exactly then your ok, im getting a supercharger kit that when I install it i wont need anything but gas to cruise around in......just make sure (whichever route you go) that the manufacturer sends you "everything" needed for the install and not that when you install the kit you end up needing this and that...understand ???

Turbo cars will cost you more in the long run... I know from experience... If you want a street car with a bit more kick to it than go S/C... Vortech is the way to go...

The kit dont cost 2500 to get. Its about 1500 to get. I have spent the other 1000 about on fuel system and clutch

For a mostly street car, get the vortech. If you want something with a little more power, go turbo, it will cost more to make it complete and for good quality stuff but more boost is just a button away. With a supercharger you have to change the pulley and belt everytime you want to adjust the boost.
