hey guys....so now that the suspension is done on my car...(for now at least) i'm moving to the driveline before i toss power adders at it. getting my torsen limited slip and 3.55's put in then going to toss on my frpp aluminum driveshaft. question is....i want to have the transmission rebuilt next. it's feeling a little tired and after 102k on the clock i think its a good time to knock it out. so should i go with a different trans altogether (tremec?) or should i have it built? i'm interested in having it built to handle more power cuz i like having a 5spd especially for autox....if i do what all should i get. i want it to be able to handle more power. but i don't want to spend an insane amount of money on it either.

"Built" T5s cost the same as bigger/stronger Tremecs. Get a TKO. Oh, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Have to agree with Paul here. Although I will add that used T5's go for around 350, and I can change on in like an hour and a half, so you can change them a few times before you could have bought a Tremec lol

how much power can a stock t5 handle? if i get this one rebuilt or grab one from another car i just want to know it will be able to handle some hp. i'm not planning on doing anything insane hp wise with my car just yet but i do want to do a 347 stroker sooner or later and want to know if a t5 can handle it or if i should just got with a tremec now. seems like it should be able to handle it seeing as a lot of guys on here are putting down good power through. please school me on my t5's! haha.

T5s are good for about 300RWTQ. A 347 with a good set of heads and intake should be making close to 400HP, so a stock T-5 isn't going to cut it for long. I'm on the look out for another tranny as well, hoping to hit 400-450RWHP on my boosted setup. You have to remember that you'll also need an upgraded clutch and bellhousing to fit the TKO.

well here's the thing based off of reading the thread off the corral....i'm not going to be power shifting....it will be run at the track though....(not drags) autox will be held in 2nd, and trackdays will be a range of shifting obviously and then daily driven. i just don't know if i should invest in the tko or leave the t5. idk what trans setups a lot of people have on the forum but there seems to be a lot of people making good power and they haven't said much about what thee did trans wise....

how much can a built t5 handle and how much would it cost? would it be cost effective to do that?

Astro performance rates their T-5 close to 500hp, but costs around $1800 plus core and shipping. You still need to change clutch to a 26 spline unit. For the money I'd rather hunt around a used TKO which I've seen for as low as $1600 or save up for a new one.

just looked them up and seems they dont have a core charge and you can send your core in and get a $250 rebate. so that's not too bad actually. that kit comes with a king cobra clutch too. so not that bad actually.

You can buy a astro or G-force gear set and put it in yourself, but they cost around 1k +/-. I've seen used 3550s go for as low as $800. Also consider when/if your going to replace your clutch as well. That way you can get the correct spline stuff for a tremec without having to buy things twice. And also I'd ride the stock t5
until it breaks.

well i'm taking it to the track and autoxing it so i don't want it to break is the thing. and that's kinda why i'm leaning towards t5 so i don't have to go through searching for the right clutch/spline....etc....etc....
