That doesn't make any sense that the insurance will not cover it if you add a safety device like that. I can understand them not covering the cost of a cage in the event of a crash and certainly they would tell you to go kick rocks if you crashed it at a track but if its still street legal and your driving it as such and paying your bills on time I can't imagine that a cage would void the insurance.

I think the cage problem lies with the fact of needing a helmet. When you have a cage, technically you and your passengers are required to wear helmets and harnesses. If you don't happen to have that stuff, the cage is actually more dangerous. Specially with air bags too, and you are adding a 'safety' device that was not manufacturer tested therefore it may not pass gov't vehicle safety standards that all cars must pass.

It would be a bummer if you have a drag cage in your car, get in a accident, and find out they won't cover a dime. Specially if you're making payments on the car.

No automobile insurance will cover you car at any track. That's why you sign forms before you get on the track.

You can get track insurance though.. Luckily one of the guys in my local club had it. Here's before and after pics.

Exactly my point once on a track they do not cover you anymore. That does suck for that guy looks like he got into it alittle to hot. Thank god for the track insurance.

Lilroush...who do you have your insurance through? I know that come next year the class I plan on running requires your car be registered to drive on the street and even though I don't drive it on the street I will be keeping insurance on it to make it all legal for the class....I do have a half cage...so nothing crazy. I guess I need to call up my insurance company. I would like them to insure it for the track honestly...but still have it be insured for the street too....hm...interesting...need to talk to them about it.

Sorry this is a late reply. I have had custom written policies from both Hartford and Progressive. Both agents allowed us to agree upon a 'stated value' of the cars, and my premium was based on cost of replacement for a collector car. Both also allowed HPDE coverage on the track.

You can get insurance for track use of a vehicle. Most waivers are to protect the track from being sued by you if you crash or someone hits you.
