i dont know about you guys but i got really tired of having to remove the tire and inner fenderwell so i decided to take a brass dowel rod and a brass hammer and opened the hole up a little bit to fit the filter in and out of the hole rather than having to jack the car up. looks a little something like this...

you can always smooth it out more and and do a little touch up paint if your engine bay is flawless but the chrome plate covers it up anyways.

i just thought id share this in case your like me and tired of having to jack the car up everytime you want to clean your air filter :)

If the chrome plate covers it, then I'd do it in a heart beat. I probably would have gotten a cut off wheel or a sawsall and just cut the metal out, but that's just me. Like you said, no one will ever see it. makes it much easier.

i considered the sawzall, its one of my best friends as well as the cut off wheel but since the metal already has a bent lip on it i figured id keep it as close to stock looking as possible should i for whatever reason decide to sell the car and want to put the stock intake back on. but yupp i definitely considered both of those tools.

no chance of that werkin with my power pipe...

i just googled that because i had no idea what it was GEEZ that thing is massive... with enough opening you can pull it off tho i only hammered out the bottom edge, theres still the sides and top to bring out a little. im sure with a little creativity you could pull it off!

I hope my bbk intake will be gone soon and replaced with a jlt, but a good idea anyways.

yeah my filter is starting to rust... im thinking of replacing it eventually myself. but because i have no idea when that will be, this makes it easier.

you forget that the power pipe also moves the MAF into the fender. Even with out the maf you have to twist it down there.....

that would explain why i didnt see one in any pix of it... i was unaware of that. in that case yeah you might be screwed on that. whats the point in the MAF being in the fender too tho? for a cleaner look or does it have a functional purpose? sorry iv never even heard of a power pipe till you mentioned it and i know nothing about it other than the fact that its freakin huge

its really made for a forced induction application which I hope to put it to use on eventually. I found i tused on here and jumped on it. The maf in the fender does clean it up alot as well as keeps it in the cooler air in the fender. I don't think it adds any hp but I would think it would be better for it no not go through such extreme heat cycles.

really youve never had to jack it up? lol i could never get the damned thing on or off without jacking the car up. now tho all i have to do is unplug the MAF, and remove that boot on it and pull it out. maybe your hole is bigger than mine haha...

but on a side note it came with the car as well as the stocker so i figured id use it. i may take the same route as scott and maybe get that power pipe its rather intriguing.. but what intake would you recommend?

Why have you taken it off? Maybe ive just never needed to?

I would say the power pipe or stocker plus a K&N... since JLT doesnt have one to fit the STB on my year.

I use it since it is on the car.. Otherwise.. Put ur hand on it after running the car. It will burn your skin off..nice COLD air right?
