I've come to realize that the block has another difference that I overlooked in my build: My motor is out of a 91-92ish Grand Marquis.. Whatever the last year they made the 5.0.. To my understanding, the 1983-1995 Mustangs, Mark VII's, T-birds, Cougars, and Explorer 5.0's all had the HO motor, which used a reverse rotation (counter-clockwise) water pump and front cover. The "Full Size Cars" (grand marquis and crown vic) used standard (clockwise) rotation pumps and timing covers. So, as far as I can understand, the block doesn't care which one you use. You just can't mix and match the 2 (cover and pump). So right now, I have the timing cover from a grand marquis on my grand marquis motor (clockwise rotation), but the water pump I got is for a Mustang, and I have it rotating counter-clockwise. I'm starting to doubt that it's going to work. Now, am I correct in this assumption? Will it work? If not.. is the answer to get a Grand Marquis water pump, or a Mustang timing cover? I dont believe I can just run this pump clockwise - it would just stall the coolant, correct? It doesn't seem like the front timing cover would have that much of an impact on which water pump you needed to use.. I read this somewhere, and I'm not sure if its a legit source or not.. doesnt the only effect the timing cover has on coolant flow is the 2 small water jackets where coolant flows through? Even then, I don't see how it would make a difference.. can someone clarify for me please?
