Does anyone know where I can get the liner on the underside of the hood for a 96 Cobra? I've checked with Ford and they said it's a discontinued part. Thanks!

I've been looking for 1 for my 96 Cobra hood for about 2 years!! I have found nothing!! I thought I found a place & ordered it online. Came back & they said the part was discontinued! I've even had my cousin look through his auto parts guys through his body shop. Nothing! Good luck. If you find one, please tell me.

& nobody remakes them, either. I have what came on my hood. It's OK. I left one off until I can find a new one. I've bought just about every new part I can for my car. Putting a used hood insulator on it, just didn't feel right.

Yeah, remember that one. The one I have now is like missing on a few spots. This would not help me out any.

Just remembered. I thought I found 1 @ a AUTO PARTS WAREHOUSE type place. You put in your car style wants, it find what you select from. It wasn't that, like that though. It was parts.com.

I thought it was to smother any fires you might have. Why would you want that sound to be lessened? Questioning myself, not you!!

I'll have to check out that website..you never know.

In regards to the purpose of the hood liner, I spoke with one of the Ford techs at the dealership when I was there and he said that not only does it provide a sound & fire barrier (mandatory on vehicles from the factory), but more importantly, because the 4.6 tends to run a little warm during the summer months, it will prevent the paint on the hood from discoloring and possibly warping the hood. I know many people remove their liner and report no adverse effects, but IMO it's not worth the risk (especially living in the South.)

hmm... i wonder if the 95 cobra R had one factory... It was a street legal car... hmmmm... now I'm super curious. I kind of doubt
it, but have no evidence to back up my suspicions. Anyone?

Looked all I could, didn't see 1 good pic of the under hood area! Even tried Ebay. There was 1, no pics. I'm not good with Craigslist.

Odd you had a Ford tech tell you this. Why does the '08+ Escape with the inline 4 cyl. not have an insulator? They are seemingly not mandatory on ALL new vehicles. Hummm.

Not sure to be honest. Probably has something to do with the normal operating temperature of the inline 4 cyl not being as high as the 4.6's. And I'm thinking the industry standards/regulations might have been a little different when Ford introduced the 4.6 in '96 (4 catalytic converters on the factory H-pipe for example on my 96 cobra). Perhaps the hood liner was mandated back then and ended up just sticking in later models. This is all conjecture on my part though.
