So i keep hearing that the 94-95 don't like cam swaps.
And that you will need to *dumb* up the computer?
i want a cam with a little thumpidy thump. i know i will need to upgrade valve springs and what not but what do i really need to do with the computer?

To get the maximum potential you'll need a Dyno tune, might get away with a mail tune but there's no guarantee that it'll run right. I wouldn't recommend just a cam swap at least not before doing a head swap since that's the biggest bottle neck on these engines.

+1 If you are doing a cam swap just for the sound it's kinda pointless as most cams will change your power band. You might even lose low end torque but again that depends on the cam.

A cam should never be installed just for the sole purpose of "a little thump"

I should have typed that a little better. I don't mean just for sound, i would also like to add a little power. Get some gt40 heads upgrade the valve train and install a bigger cam. But in order to run a bigger cam, the car will need to be tuned from what I'm reading.

Ok for best results you will want to take it to a dyno shop and let them run it and tune it. However I have talked to many people on different forums that had no issues at all with their cars without tunes. Others just get chips and have a tune put on the chip for their unique set up. If you go the chip rout there are lots of companies (APE, Superchips, Diablosport, Moates, etc) that sell these chips. Do some research on the companies and choose the best for you. Alot of times the seller will give free tunes if you send them your engine info.

Everyone has their own opinion on tunes, chips, and dynos. Definitely do your homework and you can't go wrong. I'm going to be running a 5.0 bored .60 over with a b303 cam, ported and polished e7's with big valves and 1.7rr's, and typhoon intake with a cobra computer. I'm probably going to run a chip but I'm going to get one that can be tuned by a dyno shop to make it easier on them.

It doesn't need to be but if you want to get the potential out of the engine build then a tune is the way to go. and if you're not planning on a tune then maybe hold off for a little while, it's a lot of work to potentially end up with a car that doesn't run as good.
