Ok i live in Tx and we all know how hot it gets here and on a black car as well. I have heard of adding water wetter, also i have heard good and bad about 160 stats. I also was thinking of rewiring the fan to come on with the key my temp stays in the middle however hot thats is. Any help or suggestions please

That temp sounds pretty good to me, I have always used water wetter but if it is not overheating why would you want to mess with it at all?

Cause if your a parinoid freak like me the cooler the car is the more time it takes for it to overheat! Which in turn gives you more time to notice something is wrong

no stat isnt the answer, from what ive heard the stat slows the water so it has time to cool in the radiator, no stat no water control

thats exactly right. you need the thermostat. also, a lower temp thermostat doesnt do much of anything on our cars except make them take longer to get hot.

Thats my reasoning for wanting a cooler stat, gives you more time to find out somethings wrong

Put teflon tape on your ECT sensor threads and then that will mess up your ground and your fan will stay on longer. Don't ask me how I know this... LOL! :tongue3:

well, i dont want to sound like a stick but he is wrong. infact, most ECT sensors are teflon taped from the factory, or have some other type of "non-conductive" sealer used.

Some Master Tech told me... lol! I used it on all my manifold changes including when I put my supercharger on. About a month ago I was running a "Solus" diagnostics test and I was running a bit on the cool side. The Master Tech told me that the teflon tape was messing with my ECT ground and that's why I run cool... :dontknow:

yeah, good guess, but not true.

think about it, all the 96-01 mustang GT's intake manifold and coolant crossover were plastic, so how would ground be present?

the PCM sends a steady voltage through the sensor, as the temperature increases/decreases the resistance changes through the ECT sensor changing the voltage going back to the PCM. you could easily play with some resistors to make your fan come on earlier and stay on longer etc, but it really does no good unless your overheating at very low speeds. the 94-96 mustang GTs suffer from excessive highway temperature, but the fan does a pretty good job keeping the temps down at low speeds.
