It cools the intake charge and slows the burn of the fuel. By cooling the intake/cylinder and slowing the burn, 91 octane gasoline has an effective rating of 116 octane race fuel. This allows you to run higher compression or more boost on pump fuel and increase power by 2 ways. First way is noticed on a forced induction motor. It cools the intake charge significantly. The 2nd way is that it allows to run a LOT more timing than you normally would be able to.What do you think the point of water-methanol injection is? I have been researching this for a while now.
